Construction Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction engineer in Texas?
Most employers require a bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or construction engineering, followed by registration with the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Graduates typically sit for the Fundamentals of Engineering exam to earn Engineer-in-Training status, then accumulate supervised experience before taking the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam to become a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas.
How much do construction engineers make in Texas?
Construction engineers in Texas earn a median of about $96,860 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,240 for the lowest 10% to over $164,330 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire construction engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring construction engineers in Texas right now include Kiewit, Fluor, and ECS Limited, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of petrochemical, highway, and large commercial projects means the hiring pool includes both global engineering firms and regional specialty contractors with deep roots in the state.
Which Texas cities have the most construction engineer jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Austin have the most construction engineer openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense petrochemical and industrial plant activity along the Gulf Coast, while Dallas drives volume through large commercial and mixed-use development, and San Antonio draws steady demand from military installation upgrades and regional infrastructure investment.
Are there remote construction engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Construction engineering is inherently on-site work, so fully remote roles represent a small share of what's available. About 6% of construction engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be project controls, scheduling, or estimating roles that can be handled away from the field.
How can I get hired as a construction engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for field engineer or project engineer associate roles, which large Texas contractors like Fluor, Kiewit, and Turner Construction fill through new-graduate hiring programs each spring. Completing an internship with a Texas Department of Transportation contractor or a regional infrastructure firm strengthens a resume considerably. Earning your Engineer-in-Training registration before graduating signals readiness to employers and speeds the transition into a full engineering role.
Where can I find and apply to construction engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to construction engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and experience levels. Search the roles available, find one that fits your background and location, and apply directly to the employer.
