Allied Steel Buildings seeks an experienced Structural Engineer to join its growing team, providing structural engineering solutions directly to our Field Service Department. The primary responsibility of this role is supporting Field Service with structural analysis, repair details, and sound engineering judgment for issues encountered during erection, installation, and post-construction of pre-engineered metal buildings, conventional steel structures, and hybrid steel structures. This position works closely with Field Service, Engineering, Detailing, and Fabrication to resolve field conditions quickly, safely, and in compliance with applicable codes. The role directly impacts project schedule, cost, safety, and client satisfaction. The position requires strong technical ability, sound engineering judgment under field conditions, and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary structural engineering resource for the Field Service Department, providing solutions to challenges encountered during erection, installation, and field construction of pre-engineered metal buildings and steel structures.
• Evaluate as-built field conditions, discrepancies, and non-conformances, and develop practical, code-compliant engineering solutions and repair details.
• Review and seal (in registered States) engineering calculations, repair details, and field modification drawings as needed. Willingness to add professional licenses in states not yet licensed.
• Respond promptly to field-generated RFIs and provide direction to erection crews, project managers, and Field Service personnel to minimize schedule impact.
• Conduct site visits as needed to assess field conditions, verify installed work, and support Field Service on complex or high-risk issues.
• Coordinate with the Engineering, Detailing, and Fabrication teams to resolve field issues at the source and reduce recurrence on future projects.
• Provide engineering guidance on connection modifications, member reinforcement, and repair methods for medium and high complexity structures.
• Document field observations, corrective actions, and engineering justifications in accordance with Allied’s quality and reporting standards.
• Support and mentor the Field Service team on structural behavior, connection design, and erection sequencing considerations.
• Remain current in knowledge and proficiency in the use of AISC and AISI material specifications, and current editions of ASCE 7, IBC, and MBMA.
• Protect the public by employing sound engineering judgment without being overly conservative in the design approach.
• Research building code changes affecting field remediation and repair approaches, and recommend updates to Field Service procedures accordingly.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) required; Structural Engineer (S.E.) license a plus.
• Minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience, with substantial experience in the pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) industry or a related field.
• Experience with MBS design software required.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and resolve field conditions on medium and high complexity structures.
• Extensive knowledge of current building code requirements, including seismic design of metal buildings and steel structures.
• Understanding of both manufacturing processes and fabrication techniques for pre-engineered metal buildings.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
• Willingness and ability to travel to project sites as needed to support Field Service.
• Ability to multi-task and set priorities in a fast-paced working environment.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, particularly under field time constraints.
• Must be self-motivated, creative, and able to learn and adapt.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Friendly and professional attitude; comfortable working in a team environment.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
• Based in Texas preferred; Dallas, Waco, or vicinity to McGregor, TX strongly preferred.
