Field Services Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a field services engineer in Texas?
Most field services engineer roles in Texas require a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or systems engineering, though some employers accept an associate degree paired with substantial hands-on experience. Texas does not mandate a state-specific engineering license for most field services roles, but candidates working on licensed engineering documents may need to be supervised by a Professional Engineer registered with the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Vendor certifications from manufacturers such as Cisco, Schneider Electric, or Emerson are widely expected and strengthen any application.
Which companies hire field services engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring field services engineers in Texas right now include Baker Hughes, Shermco Industries, and Baker Hughes Company, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy infrastructure, defense contractors, and large telecommunications networks means demand from both global corporations and regional industrial service firms is consistent throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most field services engineer jobs?
Houston, Austin, and Dallas account for the largest share of field services engineer openings in Texas. Houston's dominance reflects its role as the center of the U.S. energy industry and home to major oilfield services and refining operations, while Dallas draws demand from telecom, data center, and enterprise IT deployments, and San Antonio's growing cybersecurity and defense sector adds a steady stream of infrastructure-focused roles.
Are there remote field services engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Field services engineers are fundamentally on-site professionals whose work involves physical installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting at client locations, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 16% of field services engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and these tend to be in project coordination, technical support escalation, or pre-sales engineering rather than hands-on field roles.
How can I get hired as a field services engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate or field technician role with a large Texas-based industrial or telecom employer, where structured on-the-job training replaces years of prior experience. Companies such as Schlumberger and Honeywell run rotational field training programs for new graduates, and Texas community colleges partnered with regional employers offer technical certificates that employers recognize at hiring. Candidates who hold an entry-level vendor certification, such as a Cisco CCNA or a CompTIA Network+, and have completed an internship or co-op in a related technical field stand out from applicants without credentials.
Where can I find and apply to field services engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to field services engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Search for roles that match your experience level, specialty, and preferred metro, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
