Test Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a test engineer in Texas?
Most test engineer roles in Texas require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a closely related field. Texas does not issue a state-specific license for test engineers, so hiring decisions hinge on technical credentials such as ISTQB certification or relevant vendor certifications in tools like Selenium or LabVIEW. Building a portfolio of test automation projects and gaining hands-on experience through internships at Texas-based manufacturers or tech companies strengthens a candidacy significantly.
Which companies hire test engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring test engineers in Texas right now include Apple, Celestica, and Sanmina, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of aerospace primes, semiconductor fabs, and enterprise software companies means demand for test engineers stays consistent across the state throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most test engineer jobs?
Austin, Richardson, and Dallas have the most test engineer openings in Texas. Austin's dense software and semiconductor industry drives high volume there, Dallas-Fort Worth's mix of defense contractors and corporate tech campuses sustains strong demand, and Houston's aerospace and energy-technology sector adds a steady stream of hardware and systems test roles.
Are there remote test engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, though availability varies by specialization. About 5% of test engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the role's split nature. Software QA and automation engineering roles tend to be the most remote-friendly, while hardware, embedded systems, and lab-based test roles typically require on-site presence at a facility or test bench.
How can I get hired as a test engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for QA analyst, test technician, or junior software QA roles, which Texas-based employers such as Dell Technologies, Texas Instruments, and mid-size Austin software firms post as structured entry points. Building a portfolio of automation scripts on GitHub and earning an ISTQB Foundation certification gives candidates a concrete credential to show. Many applicants also move laterally from adjacent roles such as technical support or systems analyst positions within the same company.
Where can I find and apply to test engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to test engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas employers. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
