Field Technician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a field technician in Texas?
Most field technician roles in Texas are accessible through a two-year associate degree or a vocational certificate in electronics, electrical technology, or instrumentation from a Texas community college or technical institute. Electrically focused roles may require a Texas Electrical Apprentice or Journeyman license issued through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Industry certifications such as CompTIA, BICSI, or manufacturer-specific credentials are widely recognized and give candidates an edge in telecommunications and network infrastructure roles.
Which companies hire field technicians in Texas?
Employers hiring field technicians in Texas right now include Sunbelt Rentals, Integrated Power Services, and Cummins, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's energy sector, large utility providers, and expanding telecom infrastructure create consistent year-round demand from both major corporations and regional service contractors.
Which Texas cities have the most field technician jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio have the most field technician openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its concentration of oil and gas operators, pipeline companies, and industrial facilities, while Dallas and San Antonio draw heavy telecom, utilities, and commercial infrastructure hiring from large employers with significant Texas footprints in those metro areas.
Are there remote field technician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Field technician work is fundamentally on-site, involving hands-on equipment installation, maintenance, or diagnostics at customer or industrial locations. About 10% of field technician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be in technical support, remote monitoring, or project coordination roles rather than traditional field service positions.
How can I get hired as a field technician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is enrolling in a short-term technical certificate program at a Texas community college, such as those offered at Houston Community College or San Antonio College, then applying directly to apprenticeship or helper positions with utilities and telecom contractors. AT&T, CenterPoint Energy, and regional electrical contractors in Texas regularly hire entry-level field technicians and trainees. Completing an OSHA 10 safety course and earning a CompTIA A+ or equivalent certification before applying meaningfully strengthens an application with no field history.
Where can I find and apply to field technician jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to field technician jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas locations. Find roles that fit your experience and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that match.
