This Opportunity
WSP currently has opportunities for On Call Archaeology Field Technicians with 1+ years of experience for project work in Arizona and New Mexico. Selected applicants will be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Cultural Resource Team and will have open opportunities to become a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their cultural resource challenges.
WSP is currently looking to fill multiple hourly, project-based positions. This On Call Archaeology Field Technician (heritage resource specialist) position will work with supervisory field staff and senior archaeologists to complete assigned survey and mitigation tasks (e.g., testing, data recovery, and monitoring). Compensation will be commensurate with credentials and experience.
Successful candidates will work with environmental and heritage/cultural resources specialists throughout the West. Current and upcoming archaeological project contributions are needed in Arizona and New Mexico; however, the successful candidate should expect upcoming or future fieldwork opportunities in adjacent states as well. These positions are expected to take active roles in conducting fieldwork and supporting the collection and preparation of digital data for reporting findings. The successful candidate will have experience with various digital data collection software and hardware and expected to contribute to the completion of state IMACS forms. Great Basin and Southwestern experience preferred but not required.
Your Impact
- Participation in Class I-Class III assessments and avoidance recommendations
- Participating in and/or contributing to heritage/cultural resource investigations in support of our clients’ projects. These efforts require compliance with NEPA, NHPA, NAGPRA, and other federal, state and local laws and regulations.
- Will travel to project sites Arizona and New Mexico. Per diem will be provided.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- BA/BS degree (MS/MA preferred) in Archaeology, Anthropology, History or related field.
- Minimum 1 – 3 years of professional level experience researching, analyzing, developing and managing archaeological and historic preservation plans, staff and resources.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of cultural resources and environmental regulations.
- Working knowledge of North American archaeology.
- Experience with SharePoint and Microsoft.
- Experience with NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, and relevant state laws.
- Ability to perform pedestrian survey and carry up to 25 lbs. of personal gear and company equipment.
- Ability to survey in hot and dry high-desert conditions.
- Experience identifying and analyzing a wide variety of archaeological materials from prehistoric and historic-period archaeological sites in the field.
- Must be willing to travel to a remote project location for 10-day rotations and possibly camp.
- Must pass background check and successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous work experience in the western US.
- Large scale terrestrial survey project experience is a plus.
- Previous Great Basin and/or Southwestern-specific fieldwork experience is a plus.
Hourly pay rate range: $26 - $30
