Industrial Design Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a industrial design engineer in Texas?
Industrial design engineering in Texas does not require a state-issued professional license for most private-sector roles, so the path begins with a bachelor's degree in industrial design, mechanical engineering, or product design from an accredited program. Texas universities including the University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M, and University of Houston offer relevant degrees. Building a strong portfolio of prototypes and CAD work is the most reliable way to meet employer expectations in the Texas market.
How much do industrial design engineers make in Texas?
Industrial design engineers in Texas earn a median of about $104,560 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,490 for the lowest 10% to over $168,670 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire industrial design engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring industrial design engineers in Texas right now include Apple, Micron Technology, and Celestica, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of aerospace, defense, and consumer technology firms means hiring tends to cluster around companies with large engineering campuses and active product development pipelines.
Which Texas cities have the most industrial design engineer jobs?
Austin, Richardson, and Dallas lead Texas for industrial design engineer openings. Austin's technology and consumer electronics sector and Dallas-Fort Worth's aerospace, defense, and medical device manufacturers drive most of the volume, while Houston's energy and industrial equipment industry adds consistent demand for engineers focused on ergonomics and product durability.
Are there remote industrial design engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Industrial design engineering is a hands-on role that typically requires access to prototyping labs, fabrication tools, and physical testing, which limits full remote availability. About 8% of industrial design engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. The portions of the role most suited to remote work include concept sketching, CAD modeling, and design review meetings.
How can I get hired as a industrial design engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for junior product designer or design associate roles at mid-size Texas manufacturers, where teams are small enough to bring on candidates who show strong portfolio work even without years of professional experience. Employers such as medical device makers in Austin and defense contractors in the Dallas-Fort Worth area run co-op and new-graduate programs tied to Texas university partnerships. A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end project work, from sketches through CAD models to physical prototypes, carries more weight in Texas hiring decisions than any single credential.
Where can I find and apply to industrial design engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to industrial design engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Find the roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly.
