Electrical Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a electrical engineer in Texas?
You become a licensed electrical engineer in Texas by earning an accredited engineering degree, gaining qualifying work experience, and passing the Fundamentals of Engineering and Principles and Practice of Engineering exams administered through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Most Texas employers require at minimum a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Pursuing Professional Engineer licensure significantly broadens the roles available, particularly in energy, infrastructure, and government contracting work.
How much do electrical engineers make in Texas?
Electrical engineers in Texas earn a median of about $129,450 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $76,120 for the lowest 10% to over $210,160 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire electrical engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring electrical engineers in Texas right now include Apple, Amazon, and NVIDIA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy companies, defense contractors, and semiconductor manufacturers means demand is spread across multiple industries rather than dominated by a single sector.
Which Texas cities have the most electrical engineer jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas account for the largest share of electrical engineer openings in Texas. Houston's refining, petrochemical, and power generation industries drive its volume, Dallas-Fort Worth pulls from defense, telecom, and semiconductor employers headquartered in the metroplex, and Austin's growth in semiconductor fabrication and technology hardware has made it a fast-expanding market for electrical engineering talent.
Are there remote electrical engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 10% of electrical engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of much of the work. The roles most likely to carry remote or hybrid arrangements are those focused on firmware development, power systems modeling, signal processing, or design review rather than on-site installation, commissioning, or manufacturing support.
How can I get hired as a electrical engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a new-graduate or rotational engineering program at a large Texas employer. Companies like Lockheed Martin, Texas Instruments, and major Houston-area energy firms run structured programs that place early-career engineers in supervised roles across departments. Pursuing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam before graduation and building a project portfolio through university labs or senior capstone work strengthens applications considerably. Entry roles such as engineering technician, test engineer, or controls associate are common lateral starting points that move into full electrical engineer positions within one to two years.
Where can I find and apply to electrical engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to electrical engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Find roles that match your experience and specialization and apply directly to the ones that fit.
