Plant Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a plant engineer in Texas?
Most plant engineer roles in Texas require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, or industrial engineering followed by licensure through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, which administers the Fundamentals of Engineering and Principles and Practice of Engineering exams. Many employers will hire engineers-in-training who have passed the FE exam while they accumulate the required experience hours needed to sit for the PE exam and earn full licensure.
How much do plant engineers make in Texas?
Plant engineers in Texas earn a median of about $104,560 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,490 for the lowest 10% to over $168,670 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire plant engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring plant engineers in Texas right now include PepsiCo, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and Westwood Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of refining, petrochemical, and large-scale manufacturing operations means demand for plant engineers remains consistent across both major corporations and regional industrial operators throughout the state.
Which Texas cities have the most plant engineer jobs?
Plano, Abilene, and Houston have the most plant engineer openings in Texas, driven primarily by Houston's dense cluster of refineries, petrochemical plants, and energy company headquarters along the Gulf Coast, while San Antonio and Dallas-Fort Worth support demand through advanced manufacturing, utilities, and food processing facilities that require dedicated plant engineering staff.
Are there remote plant engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Plant engineers are fundamentally tied to physical facilities, and most roles require on-site presence to oversee equipment, manage contractors, and respond to operational issues. About 15% of plant engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be project management, capital planning, or consulting-oriented positions that don't require daily floor presence.
How can I get hired as a plant engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a plant engineering internship or co-op during your degree program, as Texas refiners and manufacturers like those operating across the Houston Ship Channel actively recruit through university partnerships. Graduates can also enter through process technician, maintenance engineer, or reliability analyst roles that build the operational knowledge employers expect, and passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam early signals technical readiness to Texas hiring managers even before full PE licensure.
Where can I find and apply to plant engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to plant engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across Houston, San Antonio, Dallas-Fort Worth, and other markets throughout the state. Find the roles that fit your experience and specialty and apply directly to the employers posting them.
