About the Permian
Straddling West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico, the Permian is the most prolific oil and gas basin in America and the engine behind the country’s energy renaissance. Nationally, it provides about 40% of oil and 15% of gas production and plays a critical role in making the U.S. a leading energy exporter.
The merger of ExxonMobil and Pioneer creates an Unconventional business with the largest, high-return development potential in the Permian Basin. The combined company’s more than 1.4 million net acres in the Delaware and Midland basins have an estimated 16 billion barrels of oil equivalent resource. In 2023, we produced, on average 612,000 barrels a day in the Permian Basin, and we're aiming to produce 1 million barrels per day from our Permian assets by the end of 2027. Investments in infrastructure from New Mexico to the Gulf Coast enhance logistics and integrated value. We've advanced gathering and processing facilities, including the Cowboy central delivery point. Integration maximizes resource development through to fuels, lubes, and chemicals. The Permian Basin business unit also has the distinction of being the first at ExxonMobil to unveil and execute a plan for net zero Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions in operated assets by 2030, as part of the Corporation’s broader 2050 net zero ambition.
Over 1800 employees work and live in Midland, Odessa, Carlsbad, and the surrounding areas, all of which offer easy access to national parks and unrivaled outdoor recreational opportunities. Employees in the area also get to enjoy the world-renowned Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, which ExxonMobil has proudly sponsored since 2019. As a major operator in the Permian Basin, ExxonMobil invests heavily in local community development through the Permian Strategic Partnership, an industry consortium that works to enhance quality of life by improving infrastructure, healthcare, housing, education and workforce development.

Production Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a production engineer in Texas?
A bachelor's degree in petroleum, chemical, mechanical, or industrial engineering is the standard starting point for production engineer roles in Texas. Engineers working in licensed design or public-safety capacities can pursue licensure through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors by passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam followed by the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam after gaining qualifying experience. For oil and gas production roles, deep familiarity with Texas Railroad Commission compliance expectations gives candidates a clear edge.
Which companies hire production engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring production engineers in Texas right now include Texas New Mexico Power, Garver, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of upstream energy, petrochemical, and semiconductor operations means large integrated companies and specialty contractors are both active hirers throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most production engineer jobs?
Houston, Austin, and Dallas account for the largest share of production engineer openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its density of energy majors, refineries, and petrochemical facilities along the Gulf Coast, while San Antonio and Austin draw production engineers into manufacturing, semiconductor fabrication, and defense operations anchored by employers with major campuses in those corridors.
Are there remote production engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Production engineering is fundamentally a hands-on discipline tied to plant floors, wellsites, and manufacturing lines, so most roles require a physical presence. About 9% of production engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to concentrate in planning, reporting, and data analysis functions rather than active field or floor operations.
How can I get hired as a production engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to structured new-graduate rotational programs run by major Texas energy and manufacturing employers, where candidates cycle through field, process, and planning functions before settling into a specialty. ExxonMobil, Chevron Phillips Chemical, and Texas Instruments all run well-known new-hire engineering development programs in Texas. Entry-level titles like process engineer, manufacturing engineer, or field engineer associate are common starting points, and passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam early signals seriousness to hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to production engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to production engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
