Process Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a process engineer in Texas?
Most process engineer roles in Texas require a bachelor's degree in chemical, mechanical, or industrial engineering from an ABET-accredited program. For roles requiring a Professional Engineer designation, candidates must pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, gain qualifying experience, and then pass the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Many positions in refining and chemicals also value experience with Texas-specific regulatory frameworks and process safety standards.
Which companies hire process engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring process engineers in Texas right now include Garver, Audubon Companies, and Celestica, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of petrochemical plants along the Gulf Coast and semiconductor fabs in Central Texas means hiring tends to be consistent year-round rather than seasonal.
Which Texas cities have the most process engineer jobs?
Houston, Austin, and College Station have the most process engineer openings in Texas. Houston and Beaumont drive the majority of listings through their dense network of refineries, chemical plants, and petrochemical facilities along the Gulf Coast, while Austin's growing semiconductor and advanced manufacturing sector has made it a strong secondary market for process integration and equipment engineering roles.
Are there remote process engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Process engineering is largely hands-on work tied to physical plants, production lines, and lab environments, so most roles require on-site presence. About 9% of process engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be in process modeling, data analytics, or corporate continuous improvement functions rather than plant-floor or operations-support positions.
How can I get hired as a process engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a rotational new-graduate engineering program at one of Texas's large chemical or manufacturing employers. Companies like ExxonMobil, LyondellBasell, and Celanese run structured programs that place new graduates across process units before a permanent assignment. Candidates coming from adjacent roles in process technician, quality engineering, or manufacturing engineering positions are also competitive. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and completing an internship at a Gulf Coast facility significantly strengthens an application for candidates without full-time experience.
Where can I find and apply to process engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to process engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries including petrochemical, semiconductor, food manufacturing, and industrial chemicals. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the employers posting them.
