About the Role
As a Lead Product Design Engineer, you will spearhead the development of complex mechanical systems, transforming conceptual ideas into high-performance, manufacturable realities. You will leverage advanced CAD expertise and engineering analysis to drive innovation, mentor junior staff, and ensure our product launches meet rigorous quality and efficiency standards.
Responsibilities
- Architect and refine 3D models, layouts, and detailed assembly drawings to support high-complexity product lifecycles.
- Drive Design for Manufacturing (DfM) initiatives to optimize production efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance assembly safety.
- Lead critical design reviews and manage technical documentation to ensure project milestones and performance objectives are achieved.
- Perform advanced engineering simulations, including FEA and stack-up analysis, to validate design integrity before production.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to resolve technical challenges and implement continuous improvement strategies.
- Manage the technical release process, ensuring all CAD data and engineering specifications align with gated launch requirements.
- Identify and document intellectual property opportunities, contributing to the company's patent portfolio through innovative design solutions.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
10+ years of professional experience in product design, specifically within the automotive or high-volume manufacturing sectors.
Expert-level proficiency in CAD software (e.g., NX, CATIA) and GD&T standards.
Proven track record of leading new product launches and managing complex technical programs.
Strong ability to work directly with OEMs and suppliers to negotiate design parameters and resolve issues.
Physical capability to support on-site build activities and manufacturing floor evaluations as needed.
Preferred Skills
ASME certification in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Experience with PFMEA and DFMEA methodologies to mitigate design and process risks.
Active membership in professional engineering organizations.
Demonstrated success in mentoring junior engineers and fostering technical growth within a team.
