Engineering Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering in New York?
To practice engineering professionally in New York, you need a Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the New York State Education Department. The path starts with an accredited bachelor's degree in engineering, followed by passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam to earn Engineer in Training (EIT) status, accumulating required work experience under a licensed PE, and then passing the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam. New York also recognizes licensure by endorsement for engineers already licensed in another state.
Which companies hire engineerings in New York?
Employers hiring engineerings in New York right now include LaBella Associates, Amazon, and Bloomberg, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's mix of large infrastructure, defense, utilities, and financial technology firms means engineering roles appear across a broad range of industries beyond a single dominant sector.
Which New York cities have the most engineering jobs?
New York, Rochester, and Buffalo have the most engineering openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its concentration of infrastructure projects, financial technology companies, and major utilities, while Buffalo draws engineering talent through advanced manufacturing and aerospace employers, and Albany anchors opportunities in state government infrastructure and semiconductor-related development.
Are there remote engineering jobs in New York?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based fields, since much engineering work requires site visits, lab access, or hands-on systems work. About 26% of engineering openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with the remote-friendly roles concentrated in software engineering, systems analysis, and engineering project management rather than civil, structural, or field-based disciplines.
How can I get hired as a engineering in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate or associate engineer roles at large New York employers in utilities, infrastructure, or defense, where structured rotational programs exist for candidates who have completed an accredited degree but lack full-time experience. Con Edison, the New York Power Authority, and large civil engineering and construction firms operating across the metro area regularly hire entry-level engineers. Earning your Engineer in Training (EIT) certification before applying gives you a measurable credential edge, and co-op or internship experience from a New York-based employer significantly improves your chances.
