Engineering Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering in Michigan?
Most engineering roles in Michigan require a bachelor's degree in an accredited engineering program. For roles requiring licensure, the Michigan Board of Professional Engineers oversees both the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and the Professional Engineering exam. Candidates typically gain four years of progressive experience under a licensed PE before sitting for the PE exam. Automotive and manufacturing employers often hire without licensure for non-public-works roles, but a PE credential expands career options significantly.
Which companies hire engineerings in Michigan?
Michigan engineering roles are posted by SME, Stellantis, and Ford Motor Company and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Michigan's deep automotive supply chain means openings extend well beyond the major OEMs to Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers, defense contractors, and medical device manufacturers throughout the state.
Which Michigan cities have the most engineering jobs?
Grand Rapids, Detroit, and Ann Arbor have the most engineering openings in Michigan right now. Metro Detroit dominates because Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis headquarters and their dense supplier networks are based there, while Ann Arbor draws engineering talent through the University of Michigan, medical technology firms, and autonomous vehicle research campuses, and Grand Rapids hosts a growing manufacturing and life sciences base.
Are there remote engineering jobs in Michigan?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields because much engineering work involves physical prototypes, lab testing, or plant floor presence. About 50% of engineering openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with the remote-eligible roles concentrated in software, systems, and design engineering where collaboration happens primarily through CAD tools and digital review platforms.
How can I get hired as a engineering in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a co-op or internship with a Michigan automotive OEM or supplier, since Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis all run structured programs for students without industry experience. New graduates should target associate or junior engineer roles at Tier 1 suppliers throughout southeast Michigan, where entry-level hiring is consistent. Building a portfolio of design or simulation projects and earning an Engineer-in-Training credential after the Fundamentals of Engineering exam gives candidates a measurable edge in a competitive applicant pool.
Where can I find and apply to engineering jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to engineering jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from Michigan employers. Search the listings for roles that match your specialty and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit. No signup is required to see the openings.
