Project Controls Engineer Jobs in Austin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a project controls engineer job in Austin?
Your strongest path into Austin's market is targeting the sectors that drive the most hiring: large-scale construction, energy transition projects, semiconductor fab builds, and the city's ongoing infrastructure expansion. Candidates who stand out carry hands-on experience with earned value management, scheduling tools like Primavera P6 or MS Project, and cost forecasting. Connecting with prime contractors and owner-operators active in the Capitol Complex area, East Austin, and the broader metro tends to move faster than broad national applications.
Which companies hire project controls engineers in Austin?
Companies currently hiring project controls engineers in Austin include Tesla, GFiber, and Hoar, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Austin's market draws a mix of engineering and construction firms, semiconductor and semiconductor-adjacent manufacturers, utilities, and public-sector capital program offices managing the city's rapid infrastructure growth.
Are there remote project controls engineer jobs in Austin?
Yes, though with limits: project controls engineering is more office-and-site-oriented than fully desk-based, so fully remote roles are less common than hybrid arrangements. About 29% of project controls engineer openings tied to Austin are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with hybrid schedules most typical for cost analysis, reporting, and scheduling coordination work rather than field-facing controls roles.
How can I get a project controls engineer job in Austin with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Austin is targeting project coordinator or project controls analyst roles with large construction managers and engineering firms active on the city's semiconductor, data center, and public infrastructure builds. Entry-level candidates who have completed coursework in construction management or industrial engineering, hold an intern or co-op background, and can demonstrate familiarity with scheduling software tend to get interviews first. Austin Community College and UT Austin's engineering programs both have employer pipelines worth pursuing directly.
Which industries hire the most project controls engineers in Austin?
Most project controls engineer openings in Austin sit in Construction & Real Estate, Healthcare & Medical Services, and Consulting & Professional Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Austin's position as a hub for semiconductor manufacturing investment, grid modernization projects, and one of the fastest-growing urban construction markets in the country keeps demand for controls professionals consistently above national averages.
