Engineering Design Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering design manager in Texas?
Most Texas employers expect a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline plus several years of hands-on design experience before moving into a management role. Earning a Professional Engineer license through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors strengthens candidacy considerably, particularly in industries such as oil and gas, aerospace, and civil infrastructure. Strong candidates typically build a portfolio of design projects, then step into a lead engineer or senior engineer role before transitioning to management.
Which companies hire engineering design managers in Texas?
Employers hiring engineering design managers in Texas right now include Colliers Engineering & Design, Arcadis, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of aerospace primes, energy majors, and semiconductor fabricators means demand for this role is distributed across a wide range of industries rather than concentrated in a single sector.
Which Texas cities have the most engineering design manager jobs?
Austin, San Antonio, and Houston have the most engineering design manager openings in Texas. Houston's energy and petrochemical industry anchors demand there, while Dallas-Fort Worth draws heavily on defense contractors, telecom, and semiconductor firms, and Austin's fast-growing tech and semiconductor sector has added a significant share of openings over recent years.
Are there remote engineering design manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical roles because engineering design managers routinely oversee lab work, prototyping, and on-site design reviews. About 26% of engineering design manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with hybrid arrangements far outnumbering fully remote positions. The parts of the role most suited to remote work include design reviews, documentation approvals, and cross-team coordination calls.
How can I get hired as a engineering design manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is entering as a design engineer or senior engineer at a large Texas employer and building toward a lead role before pursuing management. Companies like Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, and Texas Instruments run structured rotational and new-graduate engineering programs in Texas that expose early-career engineers to design leadership responsibilities. Earning your Engineer-in-Training designation through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors early signals commitment, and experience with cross-functional projects or mentoring junior engineers is the clearest bridge to a first management title.
Where can I find and apply to engineering design manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to engineering design manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and metros. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
