DESCRIPTION
Are you an innovative leader that wants to design the next generation of world-class fulfillment centers and logistics systems across the globe? Do you want a high level of ownership in solving complex problems? Does the challenge of designing systems that leverage ground breaking automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies and robotics appeal to you? If so, we have the job for you!
We’re looking to add a handful of high-impact engineers to our team. In this role, you will collaborate with internal and external teams to design high quality, cost effective solutions for our fulfillment and distribution systems. You will own multiple projects simultaneously, from concept realization through design approval. You will be our suppliers’ primary point of technical contact for your projects. Then, once the design is completed and approved, you will hand-off the project to our Ops Engineering team who will oversee the installation and commissioning of the project. You’ll support that team to ensure that the system you’ve designed is successfully installed, commissioned and launched.
Your projects may include green-fields, brown-fields, and retrofits, including highly automated fulfillment centers, cross-dock facilities, and transportation centers. Your projects will be a variety of template-based and designed-from-scratch.
You will work with a team of highly skilled and highly engaged engineers in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment. Our team works on hundreds of projects each year. You will be challenged; you will learn; you will work on high impact, high visibility projects; you will grow.

Engineering Design Manager Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering design manager in Virginia?
Most engineering design managers in Virginia start with an accredited engineering degree, accumulate several years of hands-on design or systems work, and then move into lead roles. Virginia does not mandate a management-specific license for the role itself, but obtaining a Professional Engineer registration through the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation strengthens candidacy significantly, especially with defense primes and government contractors that dominate the state's engineering market.
Which companies hire engineering design managers in Virginia?
Employers hiring engineering design managers in Virginia right now include Amazon, Framatome North America, and Meta, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Virginia's concentration of defense contractors, federal systems integrators, and technology firms in the Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads corridors means openings appear consistently throughout the year rather than in seasonal bursts.
Which Virginia cities have the most engineering design manager jobs?
Herndon, Arlington, and Lynchburg have the most engineering design manager openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia's density of defense contractors and federal IT integrators anchors the largest share of postings, while Hampton Roads draws heavily from naval and shipbuilding programs, and Richmond's manufacturing and power systems sector generates steady demand for engineering leadership roles at both commercial and government-aligned employers.
Are there remote engineering design manager jobs in Virginia?
Yes, but they are limited. About 0% of engineering design manager openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of design oversight, lab access requirements, and security-classified work that characterizes much of the state's engineering employer base. The portions of the role most suited to remote arrangements are planning, design review coordination, and stakeholder reporting rather than on-site build and test activities.
How can I get hired as a engineering design manager in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving from a senior individual contributor role, such as systems engineer, mechanical design engineer, or electrical engineer, into a team lead position at one of Virginia's large defense primes like Northrop Grumman or Leidos, which run structured new program associate tracks and internal leadership development rotations. Completing a Professional Engineer registration with the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation and building a portfolio of design project ownership, even on smaller scopes, accelerates the transition into management consideration.
Where can I find and apply to engineering design manager jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to engineering design manager jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your background and location preference, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
