Your role with us
As a clinical registrar II at Salem Health, you play a vital role in advancing high‑quality patient care and supporting critical accreditation programs. Your work ensures that clinical data is accurately abstracted, coded, and reported—fueling research, regulatory compliance, and improved outcomes for our community. You’ll collaborate with physicians, peers, and multidisciplinary teams while applying your expertise in oncology data standards, staging guidelines, and medical terminology. This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to cancer program excellence and help shape the future of registry services at a Top Workplace in Oregon.
- Abstract clinical data from medical records using ICD‑9 CM, ICD‑O, SEER, STORE, and AJCC staging guidelines to support state, federal, and accreditation reporting.
- Maintain required abstracting volume to meet Salem Health and governing agency deadlines.
- Perform case finding and evaluate inclusion/exclusion criteria at least quarterly to ensure accurate case submissions.
- Conduct timely follow‑up on registry patients in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Participate in peer and physician reviews of abstracted cases monthly and quarterly to support quality and accreditation requirements.
- Prepare and export clinical data for programs such as the Oregon State Cancer Registry and ACOS National Cancer Database.
- Stay current on accreditation standards related to The Joint Commission, ACOS, and evolving cancer registry guidelines.
- Serve as a resource for data retrieval procedures and perform Clinical Registrar I duties as needed.
Required qualifications
- Associate degree.
- Certified Oncology Data Specialist (ODS‑C) — accredited by the National Cancer Registry Association (NCRA).
- Minimum two years of clerical experience in healthcare.
