Cloud Data Engineer Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cloud data engineer in Washington?
Cloud data engineering in Washington has no state-issued license or registration requirement, so the path runs through education and credentials. Most Washington employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, paired with a cloud certification such as AWS Certified Data Engineer, Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate, or Google Professional Data Engineer. Candidates who build a portfolio of pipeline and lakehouse projects and contribute to open-source data tooling consistently move faster through Washington hiring processes.
How much do cloud data engineers make in Washington?
Cloud data engineers in Washington earn a median of about $128,760 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $101,970 for the lowest 10% to over $195,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire cloud data engineers in Washington?
Employers hiring cloud data engineers in Washington right now include Rippling, Google, and Revstar, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Washington's concentration of cloud-native technology headquarters and large-scale aerospace and retail operations means demand for data infrastructure talent remains steady across multiple industries beyond pure software.
Which Washington cities have the most cloud data engineer jobs?
Seattle, Redmond, and Kirkland have the most cloud data engineer openings in Washington. Seattle and Bellevue drive the bulk of listings because Microsoft, Amazon, and a dense cluster of SaaS and cloud-native companies are headquartered there, while Redmond anchors a secondary market tied directly to Microsoft's campus engineering and Azure product teams.
Are there remote cloud data engineer jobs in Washington?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 100% of cloud data engineer openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how thoroughly this role operates through cloud consoles, version-controlled repositories, and distributed team tooling. Pipeline development, data modeling, and infrastructure-as-code work are the parts of the role most likely to remain fully remote, while on-call production support and stakeholder-facing analytics work typically require at least hybrid availability.
How can I get hired as a cloud data engineer in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a data or cloud associate role and building toward engineering from there. Amazon and Microsoft both run university hire and early-career programs in Washington that place candidates into data infrastructure and cloud platform teams without requiring prior industry experience. Lateral moves from roles like data analyst, BI developer, or cloud support engineer are common on-ramps. Earning a cloud certification, contributing a documented ETL or streaming project to a public repository, and targeting associate data engineer postings at Washington technology companies gives candidates without a work history a concrete edge.
Where can I find and apply to cloud data engineer jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to cloud data engineer jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current Washington openings from employers actively hiring. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly without needing to sign up first.
