Align Your Degree to AbbVie's Trial Phases
AbbVie recruits Clinical Research Scientists with advanced degrees in pharmacology, biostatistics, or a life sciences field tied to their therapeutic focus areas. A degree in a tangentially related field weakens your H-1B specialty occupation case, so document the direct connection clearly in your application materials.
Target Therapeutic Areas AbbVie Actively Staffs
AbbVie consistently opens Clinical Research Scientist roles in immunology, oncology, and neuroscience. Tailoring your resume and cover letter to one of these pipelines, rather than applying broadly, signals fit and shortens the internal screening process where sponsorship conversations typically begin.
Browse Open Roles Using Migrate Mate
Filter Clinical Research Scientist postings at AbbVie by visa type on Migrate Mate to surface roles where sponsorship is confirmed. This saves time you'd otherwise spend screening job descriptions for sponsorship language buried in HR boilerplate.
Clarify Sponsorship Coverage Before Offer Stage
AbbVie sponsors multiple visa categories for this role, including H-1B, E-3, and TN. Ask the recruiter early which categories your offer will cover and whether premium processing is available, since clinical trial timelines may affect your start date flexibility.
Prepare Your LCA Documentation Before Filing Begins
Your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before your H-1B petition reaches USCIS. Verify that your offered position, job site location, and wage level are accurately reflected in the LCA, as errors here can delay the entire sponsorship timeline.
Understand AbbVie's PERM Timeline for Green Card Eligibility
AbbVie sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 green cards for Clinical Research Scientists, but PERM labor certification can take 12 to 18 months before the I-140 petition even files. Ask during negotiations whether your role is categorized at a level that supports an EB-2 filing to avoid a slower priority date queue.

Find Clinical Research Scientist at AbbVie JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does AbbVie sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Research Scientists?
Yes, AbbVie sponsors H-1B visas for Clinical Research Scientists. The role qualifies as a specialty occupation given its requirement for an advanced degree in a life sciences or clinical field. AbbVie also sponsors H-1B1 and E-3 visas for eligible nationals, and supports Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 classifications for longer-term employees in this function.
How do I apply for Clinical Research Scientist jobs at AbbVie?
Submit your application directly through AbbVie's careers portal, where postings are organized by therapeutic area and location. Tailor your resume to highlight clinical trial experience, protocol development, and any GCP certification. Sponsorship eligibility is typically confirmed during the recruiter screening call, so be prepared to state your visa status and authorization needs early in the conversation.
Which visa types does AbbVie commonly use for Clinical Research Scientists?
AbbVie uses H-1B, H-1B1, E-3, TN, J-1, and F-1 OPT or CPT for Clinical Research Scientists depending on your nationality and career stage. The H-1B is the most broadly applicable category. Australian citizens should ask specifically about the E-3, which has no lottery and a faster path to approval. TN status is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying scientific roles.
What qualifications does AbbVie expect for Clinical Research Scientist roles?
AbbVie typically requires a master's or doctoral degree in a clinical, biomedical, or pharmaceutical sciences field for this role. Relevant experience in clinical trial design, protocol writing, or regulatory submissions is expected. For H-1B purposes, your degree field must align directly with the position's core functions, not just broadly relate to life sciences, so specificity in your credentials matters.
How long does the sponsorship and onboarding process take for this role at AbbVie?
If you need an H-1B cap-subject petition, expect to wait for the April lottery before filing, with employment starting October 1 at the earliest. E-3 and TN sponsorships move faster since they bypass the lottery entirely and consular appointments can often be scheduled within weeks. Use Migrate Mate to identify which roles at AbbVie are actively hiring across these visa categories so you can plan your timeline accordingly.
