Tailor your credentials for medical device law
Align Technology's legal team handles FDA regulatory matters, patent portfolios, and global commercial contracts. Before applying, document any experience with 510(k) submissions, medical device IP, or cross-border compliance so your background maps directly to their practice areas.
Research Align's PERM and LCA filings
Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data for Align Technology's Labor Condition Applications to see which legal job titles and wage levels they've certified previously. This tells you exactly how they classify Legal Counsel roles when sponsoring, so you can frame your application accordingly.
Raise sponsorship after a substantive offer conversation
Legal hiring at Align Technology typically involves multiple interview rounds with senior counsel and HR. Wait until there's clear mutual interest before discussing visa needs. Raising it too early can stall conversations before your qualifications have had a chance to stand out.
Clarify which visa pathway fits your profile
Align Technology sponsors H-1B, TN, and Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT expiration date before your first interview so you and the recruiter can assess whether a cap-subject H-1B or an alternative timeline is needed.
Use Migrate Mate to target open Legal Counsel roles
Align Technology posts Legal Counsel positions across corporate, IP, and regulatory functions at different points in the year. Use Migrate Mate to filter and track these openings and identify which roles are actively seeking candidates who require sponsorship.
Confirm bar admission requirements before applying
Most Legal Counsel roles at Align Technology require active bar admission in a U.S. jurisdiction. If you hold a foreign law degree, clarify with USCIS whether your qualifications support an H-1B specialty occupation classification before the offer stage, not after.
Legal Counsel at Align Technology jobs are hiring across the US. Find yours.
Find Legal Counsel at Align Technology JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Align Technology sponsor H-1B visas for Legal Counsels?
Yes. Align Technology has a consistent history of sponsoring H-1B visas for legal professionals, including roles in corporate law, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance. Legal Counsel positions qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards given the degree requirements involved. Sponsorship decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, so confirming the specific role's requirements with the recruiting team early in the process is worthwhile.
Which visa types does Align Technology commonly use for Legal Counsel roles?
Align Technology sponsors several visa categories for Legal Counsel positions, including H-1B, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals, F-1 OPT and CPT for students in qualifying programs, J-1 for exchange visitors, and immigrant visa pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship. The right category depends on your citizenship, current status, and career stage. TN is often the fastest route for Canadian and Mexican lawyers in qualifying roles.
What qualifications does Align Technology expect for Legal Counsel roles?
Align Technology typically looks for a J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. For roles in regulatory or IP law, experience with FDA medical device frameworks, patent prosecution, or international commercial contracts is often expected. Candidates with prior in-house experience in the medical device or life sciences sector tend to be more competitive than those coming exclusively from general practice.
How do I apply for Legal Counsel jobs at Align Technology?
Applications go through Align Technology's careers portal, where Legal Counsel openings are listed by function and location. You can also browse current roles on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for positions at employers with a sponsorship track record. Prepare a resume that highlights relevant industry experience in medical devices, IP, or regulatory law, and be ready to address bar admission and visa status early in the recruiter conversation.
How do I know if the H-1B timeline works for my situation before accepting an offer?
The H-1B cap lottery opens in March for an October 1 start date, so if you're on expiring OPT, confirm your authorization end date before signing anything. If your OPT expires before October 1 and you're not cap-exempt, you may need a bridge strategy such as a 24-month STEM OPT extension if eligible. Raising this with your recruiter before the offer stage prevents last-minute complications for both sides.
