Tailor Your Background to Biotech Legal Work
Amgen's Legal Counsel roles sit at the intersection of FDA regulatory frameworks, patent prosecution, and commercial licensing. Highlight any experience with biologics, clinical trial agreements, or pharmaceutical IP in your resume before you apply.
Confirm Your Visa Category Before Interviewing
Amgen sponsors multiple visa types, but your eligibility depends on your nationality and degree. Australian attorneys should explore the E-3, while candidates from other countries typically pursue H-1B or TN. Sorting this out early shapes how you negotiate timelines.
Find Open Legal Counsel Roles Through Migrate Mate
Amgen's Legal Counsel openings don't always stay posted for long. Search Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Amgen roles that include visa sponsorship, so you're targeting verified opportunities rather than guessing from a general careers page.
Request Premium Processing During the Offer Negotiation
H-1B petitions filed without premium processing can take several months for USCIS to adjudicate. If you're transitioning from OPT or a grace period, ask your Amgen recruiter whether the company covers premium processing to avoid gaps in work authorization.

Find Legal Counsel at Amgen JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Amgen sponsor H-1B visas for Legal Counsels?
Yes, Amgen sponsors H-1B visas for Legal Counsel positions. Legal Counsel roles at Amgen qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS guidelines, given the requirement for a Juris Doctor and active bar membership. If you're already on H-1B with another employer, Amgen can file an H-1B transfer, which lets you start work as soon as the petition is filed rather than waiting for approval.
How do I apply for Legal Counsel jobs at Amgen?
You can browse open Legal Counsel positions at Amgen directly through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles that include visa sponsorship so you're not applying blind. Amgen's hiring process for Legal Counsel roles typically includes a recruiter screen, multiple rounds with the legal team, and a final panel interview. Having your bar admission documentation and a clear visa status summary ready early speeds things up considerably.
Which visa types does Amgen commonly use for Legal Counsel roles?
Amgen sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT for Legal Counsel positions, along with immigrant pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. Australian attorneys are well-positioned for the E-3, which has no lottery and allows two-year renewals. Canadian and Mexican attorneys may qualify for TN status under the USMCA professional category for lawyers, which can be processed at the border without a USCIS petition.
What qualifications does Amgen expect for Legal Counsel candidates?
Amgen's Legal Counsel roles typically require a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, active bar admission in at least one U.S. state, and several years of relevant legal experience. For roles focused on patents or regulatory matters, a science or engineering undergraduate degree is often preferred or required. Biotech, pharmaceutical, or medical device industry experience carries significant weight over general corporate legal backgrounds.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Legal Counsel role at Amgen?
Timeline depends on the visa category. H-1B transfers from an existing employer can be effective the day USCIS receives the petition. New H-1B cap-subject petitions require winning the annual lottery, which runs in March for an October 1 start date. E-3 visas are processed at a U.S. consulate in Australia and typically adjudicated within a few weeks of your interview. PERM-based Green Card filings through DOL can add 12 to 24 months before immigrant visa eligibility.
