Frame your experience around regulated industry operations
Amgen's Business Operations roles frequently sit at the intersection of commercial, clinical, and regulatory functions. Tailor your resume to highlight experience with compliance-driven workflows, cross-functional program coordination, or process governance in pharma, biotech, or similarly regulated environments.
Verify your visa category fits the role level
Business Operations titles at Amgen range from analyst to director level, and each carries different specialty occupation considerations for H-1B or E-3 purposes. Confirm your degree field aligns with the specific role's stated requirements before applying, not after an offer is extended.
Target roles aligned with Amgen's therapeutic pipeline cycles
Amgen's Business Operations hiring accelerates around product launches and pipeline milestones. Roles supporting oncology, cardiovascular, or rare disease programs tend to open in clusters. Tracking pipeline announcements helps you identify when headcount in this function is most likely to grow.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Amgen Business Operations openings early
Sponsored roles in corporate functions fill quickly and aren't always promoted widely. Use Migrate Mate to filter Amgen Business Operations jobs by visa type so you can apply before competition builds, particularly for H-1B and E-3 eligible positions.
Prepare your LCA documentation timeline before negotiating an offer
DOL Labor Condition Application certification must be completed before Amgen can file your H-1B petition with USCIS. Understand that this step alone can take two to three weeks, so factor it into your expected start date when discussing timelines with a recruiter.
Request clarity on cap-exempt filing eligibility if you have prior H-1B time
If you've previously held H-1B status and have remaining time under your six-year cap, you may be eligible for a cap-exempt transfer to Amgen outside the annual lottery. Confirm this with HR early, as it changes the filing timeline and removes lottery risk entirely.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Amgen sponsor H-1B visas for Business Operations roles?
Yes, Amgen sponsors H-1B visas for Business Operations positions, provided the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related field. Amgen has an established immigration support process, so sponsorship for qualified candidates in this function is a documented part of their hiring practice, not a case-by-case exception.
How do I apply for Business Operations jobs at Amgen?
Apply directly through Amgen's careers portal or use Migrate Mate to browse open Business Operations positions filtered by visa sponsorship type. When applying, tailor your materials to the specific program or therapeutic area the role supports. Amgen's recruiting process for corporate functions typically includes an initial screen, a hiring manager interview, and a panel interview with cross-functional stakeholders before an offer is extended.
Which visa types does Amgen commonly use for Business Operations positions?
Amgen sponsors across several categories for Business Operations roles, including H-1B, E-3 visa (for Australian citizens), TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying occupations), F-1 OPT and CPT for recent graduates, and J-1 visa for eligible exchange visitors. Immigrant pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 are also supported for longer-term permanent residence sponsorship in applicable situations.
What qualifications does Amgen expect for Business Operations candidates seeking sponsorship?
Most Business Operations roles at Amgen require a bachelor's degree in business, life sciences, public health, or a related field, with a master's degree or MBA preferred for senior individual contributor and management tracks. Relevant experience in a regulated industry, particularly pharmaceutical or biotech operations, carries significant weight. Strong candidates typically demonstrate cross-functional project management and comfort operating in compliance-sensitive environments.
How do I plan my timeline if I need Amgen to file a visa petition before my start date?
If you're transitioning from OPT to H-1B, the annual USCIS lottery filing window opens in March for an October 1 start date, so you'll need an offer in place by February at the latest. For H-1B cap-exempt transfers or E-3 applications, processing is not lottery-dependent. Standard USCIS adjudication runs three to six months, though premium processing is available to reduce that window to around 15 business days.
