Frame your scientific fluency upfront
Amgen's Business Development roles require you to evaluate drug candidates and licensing opportunities, not just close deals. Highlight any life sciences, biotech, or clinical background in your resume before the business credentials.
Target roles tied to therapeutic areas
Amgen structures Business Development hiring around specific franchises like oncology, cardiovascular, and rare disease. Applying to roles aligned with your scientific domain increases relevance and gives your sponsorship case stronger occupational grounding.
Get your credential evaluation done early
If your degree is from outside the U.S., have it evaluated by a NACES-accredited agency before you reach the offer stage. Amgen's HR and immigration counsel will need this documentation to support any visa petition filing.
Understand which visa fits your situation
Amgen sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and J-1 visas, among others. Australians can often move faster on an E-3 since there's no lottery. Use Migrate Mate to filter open Amgen Business Development roles by the visa type that matches your eligibility.
Negotiate timing around the H-1B cap
If you need H-1B sponsorship and are not already in H-1B status, USCIS registration opens each March for an October 1 start date. Align your offer and onboarding timeline accordingly so neither you nor Amgen loses months waiting on an avoidable delay.
Clarify sponsorship scope before signing
Ask the recruiter whether Amgen covers PERM and Green Card sponsorship for this specific role. Business Development positions are often senior enough to qualify for EB-2, but internal policy on Green Card support varies by level and business unit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Amgen sponsor H-1B visas for Business Developments?
Yes, Amgen sponsors H-1B visas for Business Development roles. The company has a dedicated immigration function that works with external counsel to file H-1B petitions. If you're not currently in H-1B status, be aware that cap-subject petitions require USCIS lottery selection, with registration typically opening each March for an October 1 start date.
How do I apply for Business Development jobs at Amgen?
Applications go through Amgen's careers portal, where roles are listed by function and location. You can also browse open Business Development positions at Amgen filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate, which helps international job seekers identify roles where sponsorship is actively supported. Tailoring your application to a specific therapeutic area strengthens your candidacy significantly.
Which visa types does Amgen commonly sponsor for Business Development roles?
Amgen sponsors a range of visa categories for Business Development professionals, including H-1B, E-3 (for Australian citizens), TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), F-1 OPT and CPT, J-1 visa, and immigrant visa pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards. The right category depends on your nationality, degree level, and where you are in the immigration process.
What qualifications does Amgen expect for Business Development roles?
Most Business Development positions at Amgen expect a graduate degree in life sciences, pharmacy, or a related field, often combined with an MBA or equivalent business training. Direct experience evaluating licensing opportunities, conducting due diligence on drug candidates, or negotiating biotech partnerships is weighted heavily. Roles focused on early-stage assets may also require familiarity with clinical or preclinical data assessment.
How do I understand the visa filing timeline after receiving an offer?
Once an offer is extended, Amgen's immigration team typically initiates the sponsorship process, which includes filing a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before any H-1B or E-3 petition can be submitted to USCIS. From offer acceptance to work authorization, the timeline ranges from a few weeks for E-3 consular processing to several months for cap-subject H-1B petitions. Confirming your target start date early helps both sides plan accordingly.
