Align your degree to the specific research area
Amgen's Research roles are mapped to precise scientific disciplines. A Ph.D. in biochemistry supports a role in protein sciences differently than one in pharmacology. Match your credentials to the therapeutic area listed in the job description before applying.
Target roles with PERM-eligible pathways early
Amgen sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for Research staff. Roles requiring a Ph.D. or specialized research experience tend to align with EB-2 classifications. Factor the PERM labor certification timeline into your longer-term planning when evaluating an offer.
Confirm E-3 eligibility before the H-1B lottery
If you're an Australian citizen, Amgen's E-3 sponsorship history for Research roles means you can bypass the H-1B cap entirely. The E-3 has no annual lottery, so you're not subject to the roughly 25% selection rate that affects most international applicants.
Use OPT and CPT to build internal visibility
Amgen recruits Research interns and co-ops under F-1 CPT regularly. Completing a rotation at Amgen before your OPT clock starts positions you as a known quantity when the team considers full-time sponsorship candidates.
Request the LCA before signing your offer letter
Your employer files the Labor Condition Application with DOL before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. Confirm your hiring manager has initiated this with Amgen's immigration team so the LCA certification doesn't create a gap between your start date and petition filing.
Browse verified Research openings on Migrate Mate
Finding Research roles at companies with confirmed sponsorship history saves time during a compressed job search. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Amgen Research positions where visa sponsorship has been verified, so you're applying with confidence rather than guessing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Amgen sponsor H-1B visas for Research roles?
Yes, Amgen sponsors H-1B visas for Research positions. The company works with immigration counsel to file H-1B petitions for qualifying roles, including those requiring specialized scientific expertise. Because H-1B cap-subject petitions enter the annual lottery, timing your application cycle and confirming sponsorship intent with the hiring team early in the process matters.
How do I apply for Research jobs at Amgen?
Applications go through Amgen's careers portal. For Research roles, your resume should reflect the specific scientific discipline in the job description, and your cover materials should connect your laboratory or research experience to Amgen's therapeutic focus areas. Migrate Mate lists verified Research openings at Amgen where sponsorship is confirmed, which helps you prioritize which roles to pursue.
Which visa types does Amgen use for Research positions?
Amgen sponsors H-1B, E-3 visa, TN visa, J-1 visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Research roles, along with immigrant pathways including EB-2 and EB-3. The right category depends on your nationality, degree level, and career stage. Postdoctoral researchers often enter on J-1 visa before transitioning to H-1B, while Australian nationals frequently use the E-3 visa as a cap-exempt alternative.
What qualifications does Amgen expect for Research roles?
Most Research positions at Amgen require at minimum a Bachelor's degree in a life science field, with advanced roles expecting a Ph.D. or equivalent research experience. Amgen's pipeline-focused research means hands-on laboratory skills, publications or patents in relevant areas, and familiarity with drug discovery workflows carry significant weight in the evaluation process.
How long does the sponsorship process take for a Research role at Amgen?
Timeline depends on visa type. H-1B standard processing through USCIS runs three to six months after the April 1 filing date, with premium processing available for a faster decision. E-3 and TN cases processed at a U.S. consulate can move in weeks. PERM labor certification for Green Card sponsorship typically adds 12 to 24 months before the immigrant petition stage.
