Align your credentials to specialty occupation standards
Research roles at Mayo Clinic typically require a directly related advanced degree. Before applying, confirm your degree field maps to the specific research function, not just science broadly. USCIS evaluates specialty occupation on field-to-role alignment.
Target postdoctoral and investigator pipelines specifically
Mayo Clinic fills many research positions through postdoctoral appointment pipelines, which frequently include J-1 sponsorship. Applying directly to these structured programs gives you a faster path to an offer than competing for open lab positions.
Secure your CV before the H-1B registration window
H-1B registrations open in March each year. If you're targeting a cap-subject role at Mayo Clinic, have your application materials finalized by January so your employer can complete the DOL Labor Condition Application before the window opens.
Browse open Research roles at Mayo Clinic on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Research positions at Mayo Clinic by visa type, so you can focus only on openings where sponsorship aligns with your current status rather than applying broadly and discovering the mismatch after an interview.
Understand when PERM labor certification applies to your path
For EB-2 or EB-3 green card sponsorship through Mayo Clinic, your employer must complete PERM through DOL before filing your immigrant petition. Research roles with a defined minimum degree requirement are generally well-suited to this process.

Find Research at Mayo Clinic JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Mayo Clinic sponsor H-1B visas for Research roles?
Yes, Mayo Clinic sponsors H-1B visas for Research positions that qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS guidelines, meaning the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field directly related to the work. Research scientists, clinical investigators, and laboratory specialists at Mayo Clinic commonly use H-1B sponsorship. Your degree field must align closely with the specific research function, not just broadly with science.
How do I apply for Research jobs at Mayo Clinic?
Research positions at Mayo Clinic are posted on their careers portal, and applications are submitted directly there. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse open Research roles at Mayo Clinic filtered by visa type, so you see only positions where your sponsorship category is a realistic fit before you invest time in the application process.
Which visa types does Mayo Clinic commonly use for Research roles?
Mayo Clinic sponsors Research candidates across H-1B, J-1, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, TN, E-3, and employment-based Green Card categories including EB-2 and EB-3. J-1 is particularly common for postdoctoral researchers. TN applies to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying research occupations. E-3 is available to Australian citizens with a qualifying degree and a job offer in a specialty occupation.
What qualifications are expected for Research roles at Mayo Clinic?
Most Research positions at Mayo Clinic require at least a master's degree or Ph.D. in a directly related scientific field, with postdoctoral experience expected for independent investigator roles. Prior publications, grant experience, or work in translational or clinical research environments strengthen your candidacy. For visa sponsorship purposes, your degree must correspond specifically to the research discipline, not just to science generally.
How do I plan the timeline for H-1B sponsorship at Mayo Clinic?
USCIS opens H-1B registration each March for the cap, with the fiscal year starting October 1. If you receive a cap-subject offer from Mayo Clinic, your employer files the Labor Condition Application with DOL before submitting the H-1B petition. Allow at least six months between offer acceptance and your target start date. If you're on OPT, you can begin work while the petition is pending under the cap-gap rule.
