Get Your Credentials Verified Early
Mayo Clinic's credentialing process for NPs and PAs runs parallel to hiring, not after. Have your degree verification, national board certification, and state licensure documents ready before you apply, since delays here stall visa filing timelines.
Target Specialty Units With Persistent Openings
Departments like oncology, neurology, and surgical services at Mayo regularly post NP and PA roles across Rochester, Phoenix, and Jacksonville campuses. Repeated postings signal genuine workforce need, which strengthens the employer's case when filing for sponsorship.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Verified Sponsoring Roles
Not every Mayo Clinic NP or PA posting explicitly flags visa sponsorship. Use Migrate Mate to identify which active openings have a confirmed sponsorship history, so you're applying to roles where international candidates have actually been hired.
Understand How TN Classification Applies to PAs
Physician Assistant is a listed TN profession for Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA. If you qualify, TN status avoids the H-1B lottery and can be arranged faster, though Mayo will still need to issue an offer letter confirming the specialty occupation.
Ask Recruiters Which Campus Handles Immigration Coordination
Mayo Clinic's three main campuses operate semi-independently. During the offer stage, confirm whether immigration filings are managed locally or through a central team, since that affects how quickly your I-129 or LCA gets initiated after you accept.
Align Your OPT or CPT End Date With Mayo's Hiring Cycle
If you're on F-1 OPT, Mayo typically needs several weeks between offer acceptance and your first day to initiate paperwork. Factor in your OPT expiration date when applying, and flag your cap-gap eligibility to USCIS if your H-1B petition bridges the gap.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Mayo Clinic sponsor H-1B visas for Nurse Practitioner Or Physician Assistants?
Yes, Mayo Clinic sponsors H-1B visas for qualified NP and PA candidates. These roles qualify as specialty occupations because they require at minimum a master's degree or equivalent for Nurse Practitioners and a nationally accredited PA program graduate degree. Mayo works with immigration counsel to file the Labor Condition Application with the DOL and the I-129 petition with USCIS once an offer is extended.
How do I apply for Nurse Practitioner Or Physician Assistant jobs at Mayo Clinic?
Applications go through Mayo Clinic's careers portal at jobs.mayoclinic.org. Search by role title and campus, then apply directly with your resume, licensure details, and board certification. During the screening process, you can raise visa sponsorship needs with the recruiter. Migrate Mate also lists verified Mayo Clinic NP and PA openings filtered by sponsorship eligibility, which can help you prioritize the right postings.
Which visa types does Mayo Clinic commonly use for NP and PA roles?
H-1B is the most common pathway, covering both initial entry and transfers from OPT or another employer's H-1B. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals, since Physician Assistant is a USMCA-listed profession. J-1 visa exchange visitor status is used in some academic or training contexts. For longer-term candidates, Mayo has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card petitions through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does Mayo Clinic expect for NP and PA candidates seeking sponsorship?
Mayo expects board certification from AANP, ANCC, or NCCPA depending on your role, along with active or pending state licensure in the relevant practice state. For clinical NP roles, a master's degree in nursing is the standard minimum. Most sponsored hires have prior inpatient or specialty clinic experience. Mayo's academic medicine environment also values candidates who can support teaching or research in addition to direct patient care.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Mayo Clinic NP or PA hire?
For H-1B, Mayo typically files the LCA with the DOL first, which takes seven business days with a certified posting period. The I-129 petition follows, with standard USCIS processing taking several months. If your start date is urgent and Mayo opts for premium processing, USCIS adjudicates within 15 business days. TN status for eligible Canadian nationals can often be obtained at the port of entry, making it a faster path when the role qualifies.
