Verify your licensure transfers across states
Mayo Clinic operates across Minnesota, Arizona, and Florida, so your therapy license must be valid in the state where you'll work. Confirm reciprocity or endorsement requirements early, since licensure gaps can delay the I-129 filing significantly.
Target roles that align with your degree field
Specialty occupation status for therapist roles requires your degree to match the clinical function. A counseling psychology degree supporting a behavioral health therapist role is clean. A general psychology degree supporting a specialized neurological rehabilitation role may draw USCIS scrutiny.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open therapist postings
Mayo Clinic posts therapist openings across multiple sites and specialties, and availability shifts frequently. Use Migrate Mate to filter active roles by visa type so you're applying to positions that align with your sponsorship situation before reaching out to recruiters.
Ask about LCA wage levels before accepting an offer
Mayo Clinic's Labor Condition Application locks in the prevailing wage tier for your role and location. Wage Level I or II can affect your long-term career trajectory at the organization, so confirm the tier during offer negotiation, not after signing.
Prepare clinical documentation ahead of PERM if pursuing a Green Card
If your role is eligible for employer-sponsored permanent residence through EB-2 or EB-3, DOL's PERM process requires evidence that no qualified U.S. worker was available. Having your clinical credentials, evaluations, and publications organized early speeds up the recruitment testing phase.
Request OPT or CPT start dates that match your onboarding
If you're transitioning from F-1 status, your OPT start date must align precisely with your first day of employment. A gap between your authorized start date and your actual start date can create compliance issues that complicate a future H-1B petition filing.

Find Therapist at Mayo Clinic JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Mayo Clinic sponsor H-1B visas for Therapists?
Yes, Mayo Clinic sponsors H-1B visas for Therapist roles where the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a specific clinical field. The role and your degree must align directly. Because the H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, timing your application with the April registration window is essential. Cap-exempt pathways may apply if your role involves a qualifying research or nonprofit component within Mayo's structure.
How do I apply for Therapist jobs at Mayo Clinic?
Applications go through Mayo Clinic's official careers portal, where you can filter by role, location, and department. Therapist postings span behavioral health, rehabilitation, and clinical counseling across Mayo's sites in Minnesota, Arizona, and Florida. You can also browse visa-sponsorship-filtered Therapist openings at Mayo Clinic through Migrate Mate, which surfaces active postings specifically for candidates who need employer sponsorship.
Which visa types does Mayo Clinic commonly use for Therapist roles?
Mayo Clinic sponsors several visa categories for Therapist positions depending on your background and situation. H-1B is the most common route for full-time clinical roles. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying therapy occupations. J-1 visas are used for training and exchange-based clinical programs. F-1 OPT and CPT cover recent graduates in eligible therapy fields, and EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathways are available for longer-term sponsorship.
What qualifications does Mayo Clinic expect for Therapist roles?
Most Therapist roles at Mayo Clinic require a master's degree or higher in a relevant clinical field such as counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or rehabilitation sciences. Active licensure in the applicable state is required before your start date, not just at hire. Clinical experience in healthcare or hospital settings is weighted heavily, and experience with complex or medically involved patient populations aligns well with Mayo's care model.
How do I understand the timeline for visa sponsorship at Mayo Clinic?
Timeline depends on your visa type. For H-1B, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start, meaning roles typically need to be secured months before you can begin working. TN status can be obtained at a port of entry with a job offer letter in hand, making it faster. J-1 and OPT timelines are tied to your program end dates. USCIS premium processing is available for H-1B petitions and reduces the adjudication window to 15 business days.
