Align Your Credentials Before Applying
IU Health requires state licensure and national certification before a visa petition can move forward. Confirm your ANCC or NCCPA certification is current and that your Indiana NP or PA license is active or in process before submitting applications.
Target Specialty Departments With Known Shortages
IU Health's cardiology, oncology, and hospital medicine teams regularly post advanced practice openings. Focusing your applications on specialty units with documented staffing gaps improves your chances of reaching a hiring manager willing to initiate sponsorship conversations early.
Ask About Sponsorship During the Initial Recruiter Screen
Raise the visa question in your first recruiter call, not after an offer. IU Health's HR team handles sponsorship centrally, so the recruiter can confirm whether the specific role and department have budget and approval to file an H-1B or TN petition.
Understand TN Eligibility If You Hold Canadian or Mexican Citizenship
TN status is faster to obtain than H-1B and has no lottery. Both Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants appear on the USMCA TN qualifying occupations list. Confirm your specific credential maps to the approved TN job category before discussing it with IU Health's immigration team.
Browse Migrate Mate to Identify Active IU Health Openings
Use Migrate Mate to filter Indiana University Health's Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant roles by visa type. This surfaces only positions where sponsorship is part of the hiring process, letting you prioritize your outreach to roles that are already visa-sponsorship-ready.
Time Your Application Around H-1B Cap Deadlines
USCIS opens H-1B registration each March for an October 1 start. If you need cap-subject H-1B sponsorship, ensure your offer is in place by late February so IU Health's immigration counsel can submit your registration before the window closes.

Does Indiana University Health sponsor H-1B visas for Nurse Practitioner Or Physician Assistants?
Yes, Indiana University Health sponsors H-1B visas for Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant roles. As a large health system operating across Indiana, IU Health works with immigration counsel to file petitions for qualified advanced practice clinicians. Sponsorship decisions are made at the department level, so confirming support early in the recruiting process is important.
How do I apply for Nurse Practitioner Or Physician Assistant jobs at Indiana University Health?
Applications are submitted through IU Health's careers portal. You can also browse visa-sponsorship-eligible Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant openings at Indiana University Health directly on Migrate Mate, which filters roles by sponsorship availability. When you apply, note your visa status clearly in your profile so recruiters can route your file to the appropriate HR contact.
Which visa types does Indiana University Health commonly use for Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant hires?
IU Health sponsors H-1B visas most frequently for advanced practice roles. TN status is an option for Canadian and Mexican citizens whose credential category qualifies under USMCA. The organization also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for eligible candidates in training programs, and has filed PERM-based Green Card petitions through the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based categories.
What qualifications does Indiana University Health expect for sponsored Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant positions?
IU Health requires a graduate degree for Nurse Practitioners, typically an MSN or DNP, plus active ANCC or AANPCP certification and a valid Indiana NP license. Physician Assistant candidates need a master's degree from an ARC-PA accredited program and active NCCPA certification. Relevant clinical experience in the hiring specialty, such as cardiology, oncology, or urgent care, strengthens your candidacy significantly.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant role at IU Health?
Timeline depends on visa type. TN status for Canadian citizens can be obtained at the border in a single day. H-1B standard processing runs three to five months after USCIS receives the petition, while premium processing brings that to around 15 business days.
