Verify Your NP Credentials Meet Indiana Standards
Indiana requires NPs to hold both RN licensure and a separate advanced practice registered nurse license. Confirm your foreign credentials are evaluated by a NACES-approved agency before applying, so IU Health's credentialing team isn't the first to flag gaps.
Target Specialty Units With Consistent Openings
IU Health regularly posts NP roles in cardiology, oncology, and hospital medicine across its system. Applying to high-volume departments increases the chance your sponsorship request lands with a hiring manager who has navigated the process before.
Ask About LCA Filing Timelines During Offer Negotiation
Before signing an offer, confirm when IU Health will file the Labor Condition Application with DOL. LCA certification typically takes seven business days, but your start date depends on it, so clarifying this upfront prevents scheduling conflicts with your credentialing window.
Align Your F-1 OPT End Date With the Hiring Timeline
Healthcare credentialing at a large health system can take 60 to 90 days after an offer. If you're on OPT, map your remaining authorized period against IU Health's onboarding process to identify whether a timely H-1B cap filing or OPT STEM extension is the right bridge.
Browse Open NP Roles Using Migrate Mate
Filter NP openings at IU Health by visa type on Migrate Mate to see which roles are currently attached to sponsorship. This saves time by surfacing positions where immigration support is already part of the hiring conversation, not an afterthought.
Understand How PERM Applies to EB-2 and EB-3 Pathways
IU Health sponsors both EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for NPs, both of which require PERM labor certification through DOL. Initiate this conversation early in your employment, since PERM recruitment documentation must predate the filing by specific timeframes set by DOL regulations.

Find NP at Indiana University Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Indiana University Health sponsor H-1B visas for NPs?
Yes, Indiana University Health sponsors H-1B visas for Nurse Practitioners. Because NP roles require a graduate-level degree in a defined clinical specialty, they generally qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, IU Health can file an H-1B transfer, allowing you to start work as soon as the petition is received by USCIS.
How do I apply for NP jobs at Indiana University Health?
Applications go through IU Health's careers portal, where NP roles are listed by specialty and facility. When your application is reviewed, the hiring team screens for licensure, certification, and specialty fit before a recruiter conversation. Mentioning your visa situation early in the process gives the team time to loop in HR resources that manage sponsorship logistics before an offer is extended.
Which visa types does Indiana University Health commonly use for NP roles?
IU Health sponsors H-1B visas as the primary nonimmigrant pathway for NPs, along with TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying NP classifications. For F-1 graduates, IU Health works with OPT and CPT authorization. On the immigrant visa side, the organization supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship for NPs who have established a track record in the role.
What qualifications does Indiana University Health expect for sponsored NP positions?
IU Health typically requires a Master of Science in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice, active Indiana APRN licensure, and national board certification through a body such as ANCC or AANP. Specialty-specific experience is weighted heavily, particularly for acute care, surgical, and oncology NP roles. Foreign-trained NPs should have a credential evaluation completed before applying, as IU Health's credentialing process will require it regardless.
How long does the sponsorship and onboarding process take at Indiana University Health?
From offer to start date, expect a combined credentialing and visa filing window of roughly 60 to 120 days depending on your current status and the specific petition type. H-1B transfers run faster than new cap-subject filings. PERM-based Green Card cases run on a separate, longer track, often 12 to 24 months for the PERM and I-140 stages alone. Use Migrate Mate to identify which IU Health NP roles are actively attached to sponsorship so you can plan your timeline accordingly.
