Verify your NCCPA certification before applying
Indiana University Health requires active NCCPA certification for all PA roles. Confirm your certification is current and your state license is transferable to Indiana before you submit applications, since credentialing gaps stall visa paperwork downstream.
Target specialty departments with consistent PA openings
IU Health consistently posts PA roles in surgery, urgent care, and hospital medicine. Applying to departments with recurring openings signals you understand their workforce model and positions you as a practical hire, not a speculative one.
Ask recruiters directly about their visa sponsorship process
During your initial recruiter screen, ask whether the role is approved for H-1B or TN sponsorship and who manages the filing internally. Health systems this size typically have in-house immigration counsel, and knowing the process early prevents mismatched expectations.
Understand how TN classification applies to PA roles
Canadian and Mexican nationals can qualify for TN status as a Physician Assistant under the USMCA professional list. Confirm with the employer that the specific role description aligns with TN occupational criteria before relying on this pathway.
Prepare for a longer onboarding timeline if PERM is involved
If IU Health pursues a Green Card through PERM for an EB-2 or EB-3 pathway, DOL requires a supervised labor market test before filing. Build at least 12 to 18 months into your planning if permanent residency is part of the conversation at offer stage.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open PA roles by sponsorship type
Browsing open PA positions across IU Health locations is faster when you can filter by visa category. Migrate Mate lets you surface roles where H-1B or OPT sponsorship has been confirmed, so you spend time on applications that are actually viable.

Find Physician Assistant at Indiana University Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Indiana University Health sponsor H-1B visas for Physician Assistants?
Yes, Indiana University Health sponsors H-1B visas for Physician Assistant roles. As a large nonprofit health system, it qualifies as a cap-exempt employer in some contexts, which can allow H-1B filings outside the annual lottery. Confirm the cap-exemption status of the specific facility with your recruiter, since not every IU Health entity files under the same classification.
How do I apply for Physician Assistant jobs at Indiana University Health?
Applications go through IU Health's careers portal, where PA roles are listed by location and specialty. You can also find and filter open positions by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which helps you identify roles where international candidates have been hired before. Tailor your application to the clinical department since hiring decisions are made at the department level.
Which visa types does Indiana University Health commonly use for Physician Assistants?
IU Health has sponsored Physician Assistants on H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT status, and has supported Green Card pathways through EB-2 and EB-3 classifications. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals who meet the USMCA occupational criteria for PA roles. F-1 OPT and CPT are options for recent PA program graduates still within their authorized work period.
What qualifications does Indiana University Health expect from Physician Assistant candidates?
IU Health requires NCCPA certification and an active Indiana PA license or eligibility for licensure by the time of hire. Most postings also expect clinical experience in the relevant specialty, whether that is surgical assisting, urgent care, or inpatient medicine. New graduates are considered for some roles, but competitive candidates typically have clinical rotations or PA residency experience in the specialty they are applying to.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Physician Assistant at Indiana University Health?
For H-1B transfers or new filings, USCIS standard processing runs three to six months, though premium processing can reduce adjudication to 15 business days. TN status for Canadian citizens can be obtained at the border in a single day with proper documentation. If IU Health initiates a PERM-based Green Card, the full process from labor certification to visa availability typically spans two or more years depending on your priority date and country of birth.
