Tips for Finding Physician Assistant Jobs at University of Utah
Align Your NCCPA Certification Before Applying
University of Utah PA roles require active NCCPA certification as a baseline credentialing requirement. Confirm your NCCPA status is current before submitting applications, as hiring teams screen for this before any sponsorship conversation begins.
Target Clinical Departments With Recurring PA Openings
University of Utah's health sciences network spans orthopedics, emergency medicine, and oncology, among others. Departments that post PA positions repeatedly are more likely to have established sponsorship workflows and familiarity with the H-1B or E-3 process.
Search Verified Sponsoring PA Roles on Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Physician Assistant openings at University of Utah by visa type, so you're only applying to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than asking cold during an interview.
Clarify Sponsorship Scope During the Offer Stage
University of Utah can sponsor multiple visa categories for PA roles. At the offer stage, ask directly whether your specific visa type is covered and whether the institution handles filing in-house or through outside immigration counsel.
Account for DOL LCA Processing in Your Start Date Planning
For H-1B transfers or new H-1B filings, the Department of Labor's Labor Condition Application must be certified before USCIS can adjudicate the petition. Build at least two to three weeks of LCA processing time into your expected start date.
Request a Written Sponsorship Commitment Before Resigning
If you're currently on OPT or holding a visa through a prior employer, get written confirmation from University of Utah that they'll initiate your H-1B transfer or new petition before you give notice. An informal verbal assurance is not enough to protect your status.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does University of Utah sponsor H-1B visas for Physician Assistants?
Yes, University of Utah sponsors H-1B visas for Physician Assistant roles. As a large academic medical institution, it has an established immigration process and works with legal counsel on H-1B petitions. PA candidates should confirm sponsorship availability for their specific department and role during the offer stage, as sponsorship decisions can vary by position.
Which visa types are commonly used for Physician Assistant roles at University of Utah?
University of Utah sponsors several visa types for PA roles, including H-1B, E-3 visa (for Australian citizens), TN visa (for Canadian and Mexican nationals), J-1 visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT. Permanent residence pathways through EB-2 or EB-3 are also available for qualifying candidates. The right visa depends on your citizenship, current status, and the specific role.
How do I apply for Physician Assistant jobs at University of Utah?
Applications go through University of Utah's official careers portal, where PA positions are listed by department. To find roles that include visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate to filter openings specifically verified for international candidates. Having your NCCPA certification, state license, and any relevant clinical specialty experience documented before applying will strengthen your application.
What qualifications are expected for Physician Assistant roles at University of Utah?
University of Utah typically requires a master's degree from an accredited PA program, active NCCPA certification, and a current Utah PA license or eligibility for one. Clinical experience in a relevant specialty, such as surgery, emergency medicine, or primary care, strengthens candidacy. Some departmental postings also require DEA registration or specific procedural competencies.
How do I time my visa filing if I receive a PA offer from University of Utah?
Timing depends on your visa type. H-1B transfers from a current employer can proceed anytime and allow you to start work once USCIS receives the petition. New cap-subject H-1B filings are tied to the April lottery cycle, so offers made outside that window may require bridging on OPT or another status. E-3 and TN visas move faster, often resolving within weeks of an offer.
