Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Professor Jobs at University of Utah Jobs
Align your research profile with active departments
University of Utah hires Professors into active research clusters, so tailoring your CV to match a department's published grants and faculty research agenda signals fit before the interview. Generic applications rarely advance in competitive faculty searches.
Secure credential evaluations before applications close
If your doctorate is from a non-U.S. institution, get a NACES-accredited evaluation completed before you apply. University of Utah's HR and immigration team will need this during the H-1B or E-3 specialty occupation assessment, and delays can push filing timelines.
Understand the PERM timing for tenure-track offers
Tenure-track Professor roles at universities often support permanent residency through PERM-based EB-2 or EB-3 pathways. Ask during the offer stage whether the position qualifies for a concurrent or subsequent PERM filing, since DOL processing can run well over a year.
Target departments with J-1 exchange visitor history
Some University of Utah departments regularly bring in visiting faculty on J-1 visas before converting to H-1B. If you're early-career or between postdocs, a visiting or adjunct appointment can establish institutional ties that support a later full-time Professor sponsorship.
Confirm specialty occupation documentation with HR early
For H-1B or E-3 filing, USCIS requires that the Professor role directly requires a specific degree field. Work with University of Utah's international services office before your start date to ensure the position description and your transcripts support that specialty occupation connection.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Professor roles
Faculty job listings with confirmed sponsorship history are hard to identify from general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to browse Professor openings at University of Utah filtered by visa type, so you're applying where sponsorship is already established practice.

Find Professor at University of Utah JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does University of Utah sponsor H-1B visas for Professors?
Yes. University of Utah sponsors H-1B visas for Professor roles where the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a specific degree field. The university's international faculty services office manages the petition process, including the Labor Condition Application filed with DOL. Tenure-track and full-time research faculty positions are the most commonly sponsored categories.
How do I apply for Professor jobs at University of Utah?
Applications for Professor roles go through the University of Utah's official careers portal, where each posting lists department-specific requirements. Most faculty searches require a cover letter, CV, research and teaching statements, and reference letters. You can also browse open Professor positions at University of Utah with visa sponsorship history directly through Migrate Mate before applying.
Which visa types are commonly used for Professor roles at University of Utah?
University of Utah sponsors several visa categories for faculty, including H-1B for specialty occupation roles, E-3 for Australian nationals, TN for Canadian and Mexican citizens in qualifying fields, and J-1 for visiting or exchange faculty. For permanent residency, the university supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways through PERM for eligible tenure-track positions.
What qualifications are expected for Professor positions at University of Utah?
Most Professor roles require a terminal degree in the relevant field, typically a Ph.D. for research and tenure-track positions. Teaching-focused roles may accept candidates with a master's degree plus significant professional experience. Demonstrated research output, grant history, and teaching experience are standard expectations, and the degree field must align with the specific departmental appointment for visa sponsorship eligibility.
How do I plan around visa filing timelines when targeting a Professor role at University of Utah?
H-1B cap-subject petitions have an April 1 filing window with an October 1 start date, so faculty offers made in the spring may require a deferred start if you need a new H-1B. Cap-exempt filings through a university like University of Utah have more flexibility. PERM for Green Card sponsorship can run 12 to 18 months at DOL, so raising it early in the offer process matters.
