Align Your Credentials to Mayo's PA Standards
Mayo Clinic PA roles in academic medical settings require NCCPA certification and often a master's degree. Confirm your foreign credentials have been formally evaluated to meet these benchmarks before applying, since uncertified equivalencies can stall the offer stage.
Target Departments With Recurring PA Openings
Oncology, cardiovascular surgery, and hospital medicine at Mayo regularly post PA roles. Focusing your applications on these high-volume departments increases your odds of reaching a hiring manager who already understands the visa sponsorship process.
Ask About Sponsorship Before the Offer Stage
During the interview, ask whether the specific department has sponsored PAs before and which visa types they've filed. Mayo's central HR coordinates sponsorship, but department-level familiarity with the process affects how smoothly your case moves forward.
Understand the LCA Requirement for H-1B and E-3 Filings
Before USCIS can adjudicate your H-1B or E-3 petition, Mayo must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL certifying prevailing wage compliance. This step adds weeks to the timeline, so factor it into your start date negotiations.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open PA Roles at Mayo
Searching across Mayo's campuses for PA openings with sponsorship history takes time. Use Migrate Mate to filter Physician Assistant jobs at Mayo Clinic by visa type so you can target roles where sponsorship is already confirmed.
Plan for PERM If You Want a Green Card Path
Mayo supports EB-2 and EB-3 green card pathways for PA roles, but PERM labor certification through the DOL can take 12 months or more before an I-140 is filed. Raise your long-term immigration goals early in the offer negotiation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Mayo Clinic sponsor H-1B visas for Physician Assistants?
Yes, Mayo Clinic sponsors H-1B visas for Physician Assistant roles. PA positions typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria given the master's-level education and NCCPA certification requirements. Mayo's HR team manages the petition process centrally, but your hiring department will need to initiate the request, so confirming sponsorship intent during the offer stage is essential.
How do I apply for Physician Assistant jobs at Mayo Clinic?
Applications go through Mayo Clinic's careers portal, where you can filter by role type and location. For roles requiring visa sponsorship, you can also browse open Physician Assistant positions at Mayo Clinic with confirmed sponsorship history on Migrate Mate, which filters by visa type and employer. Having your NCCPA certification, CV, and credential evaluation ready before applying speeds up the process.
Which visa types does Mayo Clinic commonly use for Physician Assistant roles?
Mayo sponsors H-1B and E-3 visas for PA roles, along with TN visa status for Canadian and Mexican nationals where the role qualifies. For candidates already in the U.S., F-1 OPT and CPT are used as bridge work authorization while longer-term sponsorship is arranged. Mayo also supports EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa pathways for PAs pursuing a Green Card.
What qualifications does Mayo Clinic expect for sponsored Physician Assistant positions?
Most PA roles at Mayo require a master's degree from an ARC-PA accredited program and current NCCPA certification. Clinical experience in a specialty relevant to the department, such as oncology, surgery, or hospital medicine, is often preferred over new graduate profiles. For visa purposes, your degree and experience must satisfy USCIS specialty occupation standards, so a credential evaluation from a recognized agency is advisable if your degree is from outside the U.S.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a PA role at Mayo Clinic?
The timeline depends on visa type. H-1B petitions for new employment are subject to the annual lottery, with a cap-subject start date of October 1 each year. E-3 and TN visas can move faster since they bypass the lottery, sometimes completing within 60 to 90 days of an offer. PERM-based Green Card pathways through EB-2 or EB-3 typically add 12 to 18 months before USCIS receives the I-140 petition.
