Verify Your Clinical Credentials Before Applying
Indiana University Health requires Healthcare Assistants to hold state-recognized certifications like a Certified Nursing Assistant credential. Confirm your credential is active in Indiana and accepted by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency before submitting any application.
Target Postings That List Sponsorship Explicitly
Not every Healthcare Assistant opening at IU Health includes sponsorship. Filter your search for postings that reference visa support or international candidates. Applying to sponsorship-confirmed roles avoids wasted effort and protects your timeline if you're on OPT.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter IU Health Openings
Search IU Health's Healthcare Assistant listings filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate. You can identify which specific postings align with your status, whether H-1B, TN, or OPT, without manually cross-referencing dozens of listings.
Align Your OPT Start Date With Hiring Cycles
IU Health's clinical units often hire on a rolling basis, but F-1 OPT authorization must already be active when you start work. Confirm your EAD card is issued before your target start date and build in buffer for USCIS processing, which can take up to 90 days.
Ask HR Directly About PERM Labor Certification
If you're targeting a Green Card path through an EB-2 or EB-3 category, ask IU Health's HR team whether they initiate PERM labor certification for Healthcare Assistant roles. Not all facilities do this for support-level positions, so clarify early in the offer stage.
Confirm TN Eligibility If You Hold Canadian or Mexican Citizenship
Healthcare Assistants from Canada or Mexico may qualify for TN status if the role meets DOL occupational criteria. Confirm with IU Health's immigration team that the specific job description maps to an eligible TN category before accepting an offer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Indiana University Health sponsor H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistants?
Yes, Indiana University Health sponsors H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistants, though sponsorship is not guaranteed for every open role. IU Health has an established immigration process and works with international candidates in clinical support functions. You should confirm sponsorship availability directly with the recruiting team for the specific posting you're applying to, as eligibility can vary by unit and location.
Which visa types are commonly used for Healthcare Assistant roles at Indiana University Health?
Indiana University Health sponsors several visa categories for Healthcare Assistants, including H-1B, TN visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for students in clinical programs. Candidates pursuing permanent residency may be supported through EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathways. The most appropriate visa type depends on your nationality, education level, and the specific role's requirements. Confirm which categories apply to your situation during the offer stage.
What qualifications or experience are expected for Healthcare Assistant roles at Indiana University Health?
IU Health generally expects Healthcare Assistants to hold a Certified Nursing Assistant credential or equivalent certification recognized in Indiana, along with basic life support certification. Prior experience in an acute care or hospital setting strengthens your application. For international candidates, your credentials must be recognized by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency, and any foreign training documentation should be evaluated for equivalency before applying.
How do I apply for Healthcare Assistant jobs at Indiana University Health?
You can browse and apply for Healthcare Assistant positions at Indiana University Health directly through their careers portal or through Migrate Mate, which filters IU Health listings by visa sponsorship type. When applying, tailor your resume to highlight clinical certifications and hands-on patient care experience. If sponsorship is a requirement for you, confirm it with the recruiter before completing assessments or scheduling interviews to avoid delays.
How do I plan my timeline for H-1B sponsorship through Indiana University Health?
H-1B sponsorship follows USCIS's annual cap cycle, with the lottery registration period typically opening in March for an October 1 start date. If you're on F-1 OPT, cap-gap protection may cover you if your OPT expires between April and September. Discuss timing with IU Health's HR team early in the hiring process so they can coordinate filing with their immigration counsel well before the registration window opens.
