Verify your NP credentials meet Indiana requirements
Indiana requires Nurse Practitioners to hold an active APRN license and national board certification from ANCC or AANP. Get your credentials evaluated early, as licensing boards often require foreign transcript reviews that can take weeks.
Target IU Health's specialty service lines directly
IU Health regularly posts NP openings in oncology, cardiology, and primary care across its statewide network. Applying to specialty lines where NP shortages are acute improves your chances of finding a team willing to initiate sponsorship conversations early.
Browse open NP roles on Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to filter active Nurse Practitioner openings at IU Health by visa type. It surfaces roles where the employer has a documented sponsorship history, so you can prioritize applications accordingly.
Ask about LCA filing timing before accepting an offer
IU Health must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting your H-1B petition. Confirm with HR whether they use internal counsel or an outside firm, and ask for an estimated timeline so you can plan around your current status expiration.
Clarify OPT and TN eligibility during the interview stage
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your STEM extension eligibility and when your EAD expires relative to IU Health's typical onboarding timeline. Canadian and Mexican NPs should ask HR explicitly whether TN classification is an option, since it avoids the H-1B cap entirely.
Prepare a credential portfolio before your first interview
Compile your APRN license, national certification, transcripts, and any foreign credential evaluation reports into a single packet before outreach. IU Health's hiring managers for clinical roles often request documentation faster than candidates expect.

Find Nurse Practitioner at Indiana University Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Indiana University Health sponsor H-1B visas for Nurse Practitioners?
Yes. Indiana University Health sponsors H-1B visas for Nurse Practitioner roles. As a large integrated health system, IU Health has established processes for working with immigration counsel to file H-1B petitions. Because NP positions are subject to the annual H-1B cap, timing your application relative to the April lottery registration window is critical. If you're already in H-1B status with another employer, a cap-exempt transfer may be possible.
How do I apply for Nurse Practitioner jobs at Indiana University Health?
Applications go through IU Health's careers portal, where NP openings are listed by service line and location. Before applying, confirm your Indiana APRN license is active or in process, and prepare your national board certification documentation. Migrate Mate also lists active IU Health NP roles filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility, which helps you identify positions where sponsorship has historically been offered.
Which visa types does Indiana University Health commonly use for Nurse Practitioners?
IU Health sponsors H-1B visas for most internationally trained NPs entering the workforce. For longer-term pathways, the organization also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship, which typically requires PERM labor certification filed through the DOL. Candidates on F-1 OPT can often begin employment before the H-1B petition is filed, and TN classification is available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying NP roles.
What qualifications does Indiana University Health expect for Nurse Practitioner candidates?
IU Health expects candidates to hold a Master of Science in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice, along with active Indiana APRN licensure and national certification from ANCC or AANP. Specialty roles in areas like oncology or cardiology often require additional clinical experience in that subspecialty. If your degree is from outside the United States, a credential evaluation from a NACES-member agency is typically required before licensure.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for an IU Health NP role?
The timeline depends on the visa pathway. For H-1B, the employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL, which takes roughly seven business days, before submitting the USCIS petition. Standard USCIS processing runs three to six months, while premium processing reduces that to roughly 15 business days. EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through PERM is a multi-year process and is typically initiated after you've been employed for a period of time.
