Verify Your NP Credentials Transfer Correctly
CHRISTUS Health requires state licensure for every Nurse Practitioner hire. Before applying, confirm your foreign nursing credentials have been evaluated by a CGFNS-approved body and that you've passed NCLEX, since both are prerequisites before any visa filing can begin.
Target CHRISTUS Locations in High-Demand Specialties
CHRISTUS posts NP openings most frequently in primary care, oncology, and women's health across Texas, Louisiana, and New Mexico. Focusing your applications on these specialties and regions puts you in front of hiring managers who routinely work through the sponsorship process.
Browse Open NP Roles Through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter CHRISTUS Health Nurse Practitioner openings by visa type and location. The platform surfaces roles where sponsorship is confirmed, so you're not guessing which postings are actually available to candidates who need work authorization.
Clarify Sponsorship Before Accepting an Offer
During the offer stage, ask HR directly whether the position is approved for H-1B sponsorship and whether the facility uses a dedicated immigration counsel. CHRISTUS facilities operate semi-independently, so sponsorship capacity can vary by location even within the same health system.
Understand the DOL Prevailing Wage Step in Your Timeline
Your employer must submit a Labor Condition Application to the DOL before USCIS can adjudicate your H-1B petition. For NP roles, the DOL wage determination is tied to your specific practice setting and geographic area, so factor seven to ten business days for LCA certification into your start-date planning.
Request Cap-Exempt Filing If You Hold F-1 OPT
If you're currently on OPT and CHRISTUS is affiliated with a qualifying nonprofit or teaching hospital, your H-1B petition may be cap-exempt, meaning it can be filed any time of year and skips the annual lottery entirely. Ask HR to confirm the specific facility's cap-exempt status before your OPT expires.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does CHRISTUS Health sponsor H-1B visas for Nurse Practitioners?
Yes. CHRISTUS Health has a documented history of sponsoring H-1B visas for Nurse Practitioners across its acute care hospitals and outpatient clinics. Sponsorship is typically initiated after a conditional offer is extended. Because CHRISTUS operates facilities across multiple states, sponsorship decisions are often made at the facility level, so confirming directly with the hiring location's HR team is the most reliable step.
How do I apply for Nurse Practitioner jobs at CHRISTUS Health?
Applications go through CHRISTUS Health's careers portal, where you can filter by role type and location. Migrate Mate is a practical starting point if you need to identify which open NP postings are specifically associated with visa sponsorship before you apply. When applying, disclose your visa requirement early in the process so the recruiter can loop in the appropriate HR and legal contacts from the outset.
Which visa types are commonly used for Nurse Practitioner roles at CHRISTUS Health?
The H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant visa used for Nurse Practitioner hires at CHRISTUS Health, given that NP roles qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS guidelines. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, CHRISTUS has also supported EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship. EB-3 is particularly common for registered nurses and advanced practice roles when the employer is willing to go through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does CHRISTUS Health expect for Nurse Practitioner candidates?
CHRISTUS generally requires a Master of Science in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice, an active and unrestricted state NP license in the state where the role is based, and board certification from a recognized body such as ANCC or AANP. Clinical experience in a relevant specialty strengthens your application significantly. International candidates should also have their credentials formally evaluated before submitting, as CHRISTUS HR will request documentation during onboarding.
How do I estimate the timeline from job offer to work authorization at CHRISTUS Health?
After a conditional offer, your employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL, which typically takes seven to ten business days to certify. USCIS standard processing for an H-1B petition currently runs three to five months, though premium processing can reduce that to two to three weeks for an additional fee. Factor in time for credential verification and state licensing before your target start date, since NP licensure in a new state can take four to twelve weeks on its own.
