Verify your NP license before applying
New York State requires a separate Nurse Practitioner license in addition to your RN license. Get both validated through CGFNS or a NYSED-approved credentialing body before submitting applications, since Northwell's HR team screens on licensure status early.
Target Northwell's ambulatory and specialty divisions
Northwell's outpatient and specialty care sites, including Northwell Health Physician Partners, post NP openings with more scheduling flexibility and often have faster hiring timelines than inpatient acute care units, where float and shift requirements complicate visa petition timing.
Align your specialty to active workforce gaps
Northwell consistently recruits NPs in oncology, cardiology, and urgent care. Framing your application around one of these shortage areas strengthens your case with hiring managers and signals faster placement, which matters when your OPT or grace period has a hard expiration.
Ask the recruiter which visa pathway they intend to use
Northwell sponsors multiple visa types, and the one they select affects your timeline significantly. Ask directly whether they plan to file an H-1B, pursue PERM-based permanent residence through EB-2 or EB-3, or bridge you on OPT. Get the answer before accepting an offer.
Plan around the H-1B cap and USCIS filing windows
If your sponsorship route is H-1B, USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start date. Confirm that your offer letter and I-129 petition timeline aligns with that window so there's no gap in your work authorization.
Use Migrate Mate to find open NP roles at Northwell
Filter by visa sponsorship type and role on Migrate Mate to surface active Nurse Practitioner listings at Northwell Health. This lets you confirm which specific sites and specialties are hiring before reaching out to a recruiter directly.

Find Nurse Practitioner at Northwell Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Northwell Health sponsor H-1B visas for Nurse Practitioners?
Yes, Northwell Health sponsors H-1B visas for Nurse Practitioners, though the process depends on your role, specialty, and start date relative to the USCIS filing window. Northwell works with immigration counsel to file I-129 petitions on behalf of selected candidates. Confirming the sponsorship pathway with your recruiter before signing an offer is the most reliable way to set accurate expectations.
Which visa types does Northwell Health commonly use for Nurse Practitioner roles?
Northwell sponsors Nurse Practitioners under H-1B for temporary work authorization and pursues PERM-based Green Cards through EB-2 or EB-3 for permanent residence. Candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or CPT can often start work while the longer-term petition is being prepared. TN status is also available to Canadian and Mexican NPs who qualify under USMCA professional categories.
What qualifications does Northwell Health expect for Nurse Practitioner candidates seeking visa sponsorship?
Northwell expects a master's or doctoral degree in nursing, an active New York State RN and NP license, and national board certification from ANCC or AANP. For specialty roles in oncology, cardiology, or critical care, prior clinical experience in that specialty is typically required. Foreign-educated nurses must complete credential evaluation through a CGFNS-approved agency before their application is reviewed.
How do I apply for Nurse Practitioner jobs at Northwell Health?
You can browse and apply for Nurse Practitioner positions at Northwell Health directly through Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa sponsorship type so you can identify roles where H-1B or Green Card sponsorship is available. Once you identify a role, apply through Northwell's careers portal and flag your visa sponsorship need early in the recruiter screening call to avoid delays later in the process.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Nurse Practitioner at Northwell Health?
Timeline depends on the visa type. An H-1B petition with premium processing is typically adjudicated by USCIS within 15 business days of filing, though that does not include time for LCA certification through DOL, which runs two to three weeks. A PERM-based Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3 involves a DOL labor market test that can take six months or more before USCIS even receives the I-140 petition.
