Obtain State Certification Before Applying
New York requires Healthcare Assistants to hold a valid Nurse Aide certification or equivalent credential. Having this in hand before you apply signals job-readiness and removes a common reason Northwell recruiters move past international candidates early in screening.
Target Northwell's High-Volume Hiring Facilities
Northwell operates hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, and long-term care sites across the New York metro area. Focus applications on their larger acute-care hospitals, where Healthcare Assistant demand is consistent year-round and sponsorship decisions are made at the departmental level.
Clarify OPT Authorization Status Early in Interviews
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm with your Designated School Official that Healthcare Assistant duties qualify under your approved CIP code before your interview. Northwell's HR team will ask about your current work authorization and remaining OPT window during initial screening.
Understand the H-1B Timing Constraint for This Role
Healthcare Assistant positions must meet USCIS specialty occupation standards for H-1B eligibility, which requires demonstrating that a bachelor's degree in a specific field is the normal minimum. Discuss this directly with Northwell's immigration team before assuming the role qualifies under your petition.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Active Northwell Openings
Healthcare Assistant postings at Northwell turn over frequently and sponsorship availability varies by facility. Use Migrate Mate to filter open roles by visa type so you only spend time applying to positions where sponsorship is confirmed rather than assumed.
Prepare for PERM Documentation If Pursuing a Green Card
Northwell has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for healthcare support staff, but the DOL PERM process requires documented recruitment efforts and prevailing wage compliance. Ask the hiring manager at offer stage whether the role has an established immigration pathway and what the typical timeline looks like.

Find Healthcare Assistant at Northwell Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Northwell Health sponsor H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistants?
Northwell Health does sponsor H-1B visas, but eligibility for Healthcare Assistant roles depends on whether the specific position meets USCIS specialty occupation criteria. This typically requires that a bachelor's degree in a directly related field is the standard minimum for entry. Not every Healthcare Assistant posting will qualify, so confirm sponsorship scope with the recruiter before accepting an offer.
Which visa types are commonly used for Healthcare Assistant roles at Northwell Health?
Northwell Health sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Healthcare Assistant candidates, and has supported EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for longer-tenured staff. TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying healthcare occupations. F-1 OPT is common for recent graduates whose program aligns with the role's clinical duties.
What qualifications or experience are expected for Healthcare Assistant roles at Northwell Health?
Northwell generally requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid New York State Nurse Aide certification or Home Health Aide certification, and current BLS certification. Prior clinical or long-term care experience strengthens your application significantly. For sponsored candidates, your credential must be active and verifiable before Northwell's HR team will advance your application to the immigration review stage.
How do I apply for Healthcare Assistant jobs at Northwell Health?
Applications go through Northwell Health's careers portal, where you can filter by job title and location. Before applying, browse open Healthcare Assistant roles on Migrate Mate to identify which positions are listed with visa sponsorship so you can prioritize your applications. Tailor your resume to reflect any New York-specific certifications and include your current visa status and authorization end date to help recruiters assess fit quickly.
How do I manage the timeline between an offer and my visa filing at Northwell Health?
Once you receive an offer, Northwell's legal or HR team typically initiates the sponsorship process, which includes Labor Condition Application certification through DOL before any USCIS petition is filed. For H-1B transfers or cap-exempt filings, processing can take one to three months with standard service. If you're on OPT, confirm your remaining authorization window covers the filing period and request a cap-gap extension through your Designated School Official if needed.
