Obtain State-Recognized CNA Certification First
Washington State requires Certified Nursing Assistant certification through the DSHS Nurse Aide Registry before you can work as a Healthcare Assistant. Securing this credential before applying removes a key barrier and signals to MultiCare recruiters that you're job-ready.
Target MultiCare's High-Volume Hiring Facilities
MultiCare consistently posts Healthcare Assistant openings across Tacoma General, Auburn Medical Center, and Good Samaritan Hospital. Focusing your applications on these campuses increases your exposure to hiring managers actively recruiting for clinical support roles.
Confirm Your Visa Type During the Screening Call
MultiCare's recruiters handle sponsorship on a role-by-role basis. Ask directly during your initial screening whether the specific position is approved for H-1B or TN sponsorship so you don't invest time in an interview process for a role that won't support your visa category.
Understand the J-1 Waiver Path for Clinical Roles
If you're completing a J-1 clinical training program, MultiCare operates in Health Professional Shortage Areas that may qualify for a Conrad 30 waiver. Coordinate with your program sponsor and USCIS well before your J-1 end date to avoid a gap in work authorization.
Use Migrate Mate to Filter Open Roles by Visa Type
Healthcare Assistant openings at MultiCare turn over frequently across multiple campuses. Use Migrate Mate to filter MultiCare's active listings by the visa types they sponsor, so you're applying to positions that match your immigration situation from the start.
Align Your OPT or CPT Timeline with MultiCare's Hiring Cycle
MultiCare's clinical support hiring ramps up ahead of summer and the fall flu season. If you're on F-1 OPT, submit your EAD application to USCIS at least 90 days before your program end date so your work authorization is active when offers are extended.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does MultiCare Health System sponsor H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistants?
Yes, MultiCare Health System has sponsored H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistant roles. Because sponsorship decisions are made at the individual position level, not company-wide, you'll need to confirm with the recruiter for the specific role you're applying to. Positions tied to specialty departments or hard-to-fill locations are more likely to carry sponsorship approval.
Which visa types are commonly used for Healthcare Assistant roles at MultiCare Health System?
MultiCare has sponsored H-1B, TN visa, J-1 visa, and F-1 OPT and CPT for clinical support staff. TN visa is a strong option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying healthcare roles. J-1 visa is common for candidates completing clinical exchange programs. EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways are also available for longer-term employees pursuing permanent residence through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does MultiCare Health System expect for Healthcare Assistant positions?
Most Healthcare Assistant roles at MultiCare require current Washington State CNA certification through the DSHS Nurse Aide Registry, Basic Life Support certification, and at least one year of direct patient care experience in an acute or post-acute setting. Some specialty units, including oncology and cardiac care, prefer candidates with additional clinical certifications or experience in those departments.
How do I apply for Healthcare Assistant jobs at MultiCare Health System?
Applications go through MultiCare's careers portal, where roles are posted by campus and department. You can also browse Healthcare Assistant openings at MultiCare filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to identify which specific postings align with your immigration status before you apply. Tailoring your application to the unit's patient population and care setting strengthens your candidacy.
How do I plan my timeline if I need visa sponsorship to work at MultiCare Health System?
Timeline depends heavily on your visa category. H-1B petitions filed in the April lottery have an October 1 start date, so you'll want an offer finalized by February or March at the latest. TN status can be obtained at the border with an offer letter, making it faster. If you're on OPT, file your EAD application with USCIS at least 90 days before your program ends to avoid any gap between authorization and your start date.
