Verify your credentials meet Michigan CNA requirements
Michigan requires Healthcare Assistants to hold an active Nurse Aide certification on the state registry before starting patient-facing work. Confirm your certification is current and transferable before applying, as MyMichigan Health cannot begin sponsorship paperwork until licensure is cleared.
Target roles across MyMichigan's regional facilities
MyMichigan Health operates multiple hospitals and outpatient sites across mid-Michigan. Applying to facilities in less competitive markets like Alma or West Branch often moves faster than flagship locations, and sponsorship decisions are made at the system level, not by individual sites.
Clarify TN eligibility before accepting a Healthcare Assistant offer
Canadian and Mexican applicants should confirm the specific job title maps to a TN-qualifying occupation category before signing an offer letter. Healthcare Assistant duties that fall outside recognized TN classifications require H-1B sponsorship instead, which changes the filing timeline significantly.
Time your OPT start date around MyMichigan's onboarding cycles
F-1 OPT authorization from USCIS can take up to 90 days. Submit your OPT application as early as 90 days before your program end date so your work authorization is active before MyMichigan Health's typical onboarding begins, avoiding gaps that could delay your start.
Ask HR directly about H-1B filing timelines at offer stage
MyMichigan Health files H-1B petitions through a legal team familiar with healthcare occupations. At the offer stage, ask specifically whether they file cap-subject or cap-exempt petitions, since hospital-affiliated healthcare employers can sometimes qualify for cap-exempt status under certain institutional affiliations.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Healthcare Assistant openings by visa type
Not every Healthcare Assistant listing at MyMichigan Health is open to sponsored candidates. Use Migrate Mate to filter active openings by the specific visa types the company sponsors, so you're only applying to roles where your immigration status is already accounted for.

Find Healthcare Assistant at MyMichigan Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does MyMichigan Health sponsor H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistants?
Yes, MyMichigan Health has sponsored H-1B visas for Healthcare Assistants. Because MyMichigan operates as a regional health system with hospital affiliations, it's worth confirming at the offer stage whether your specific role and facility qualify for cap-exempt H-1B filing, which would bypass the annual lottery and allow year-round petition submission.
How do I apply for Healthcare Assistant jobs at MyMichigan Health?
Applications go through MyMichigan Health's careers portal, where listings are posted by facility and department. To find openings that are explicitly open to visa sponsorship, use Migrate Mate to browse and filter Healthcare Assistant roles at MyMichigan Health by visa type before applying, so you're not spending time on positions that don't support your immigration status.
Which visa types are commonly used for Healthcare Assistant roles at MyMichigan Health?
MyMichigan Health has sponsored H-1B visas and supported F-1 OPT and CPT for Healthcare Assistants, along with TN visas for eligible Canadian and Mexican nationals. The right visa depends on your nationality, degree, and job duties. TN eligibility in particular depends on whether the Healthcare Assistant role maps cleanly to a recognized TN occupation category.
What qualifications does MyMichigan Health expect for Healthcare Assistant roles?
Most Healthcare Assistant positions require an active Nurse Aide certification on the Michigan state registry, along with basic patient care experience in a clinical or hospital setting. Some postings specify BLS certification and prior experience in acute care. International candidates should have these credentials in place before applying, as sponsorship cannot begin until state licensing requirements are satisfied.
How do I plan my timeline if I'm waiting on visa sponsorship from MyMichigan Health?
If you're on F-1 OPT, file with USCIS up to 90 days before your program ends to avoid a work authorization gap. For H-1B cap-subject petitions, registration opens in March and work authorization typically begins October 1. Cap-exempt hospital roles can be filed year-round, with USCIS adjudication running approximately three to six months under standard processing.
