Credential Your Certification Before Applying
MyMichigan Health expects Medical Assistants to hold a recognized credential like the CMA or RMA before sponsorship conversations begin. Verify your certification is active and your transcripts are ready, because hiring teams will confirm both early.
Target Outpatient Clinics Over Hospital Units
MyMichigan Health's Medical Assistant openings cluster heavily in its outpatient clinic network rather than inpatient hospital floors. Filtering your search by clinic or ambulatory care settings surfaces the highest-volume hiring areas and reduces competition from candidates with acute care backgrounds.
Align Your OPT Start Date With Hiring Cycles
Healthcare employers like MyMichigan Health often hire on rolling cycles tied to clinic staffing needs, not academic calendars. Submit your F-1 OPT authorization request to your DSO at least 90 days before your target start date so your EAD arrives before the role begins.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Sponsorship-Confirmed Openings
Many Medical Assistant postings at MyMichigan Health don't explicitly state visa sponsorship in the listing. Search MyMichigan Health on Migrate Mate to see which roles are tied to verified sponsorship history and apply directly to those before your work authorization window tightens.
Confirm TN Eligibility Through Your Job Offer Letter
Canadian and Mexican nationals applying as Medical Assistants should verify the role qualifies under USMCA TN classification before accepting an offer. The DOL's TN occupation list is narrow, so ask your hiring contact to confirm the job title maps cleanly to an approved category before finalizing paperwork.
Clarify H-1B Filing Timelines During the Offer Stage
If you're moving from OPT to H-1B sponsorship at MyMichigan Health, confirm when the organization intends to file with USCIS relative to the April 1 registration window. Missing the cap-subject registration deadline means a full year's delay, so get the timeline in writing before signing your offer.

Does MyMichigan Health sponsor H-1B visas for Medical Assistants?
Yes, MyMichigan Health has a documented history of H-1B sponsorship for Medical Assistant roles. Sponsorship is not automatic with every offer, so raise the topic directly during the hiring process. Confirming the organization's intent before you receive a written offer gives you time to plan around USCIS filing deadlines and the annual cap registration window.
Which visa types are commonly used for Medical Assistant roles at MyMichigan Health?
MyMichigan Health has sponsored Medical Assistants under H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visa classifications. F-1 OPT and CPT are practical entry points for recent graduates, while TN works for Canadian and Mexican nationals whose role maps to an approved USMCA occupation. H-1B sponsorship typically follows after an initial period of authorized employment.
How do I apply for Medical Assistant jobs at MyMichigan Health?
You can browse and apply for Medical Assistant openings directly through MyMichigan Health's careers portal, or use Migrate Mate to identify which postings are connected to verified sponsorship history before applying. When submitting your application, include your certification credentials and be prepared to confirm your visa status and work authorization timeline early in the screening process.
What qualifications does MyMichigan Health expect for Medical Assistant candidates?
MyMichigan Health generally looks for completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program and a recognized certification such as the CMA, RMA, or CCMA. Phlebotomy competency and EHR experience, particularly with Epic, are frequently listed in postings. Roles in specialty clinics may require additional experience aligned to that department's patient population.
How do I manage the timing between my visa status and a Medical Assistant offer at MyMichigan Health?
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your EAD card arrival date before committing to a start date, since MyMichigan Health cannot bring you on before you have valid work authorization. For H-1B transitions, USCIS cap-subject filings must be submitted by April 1, with employment starting no earlier than October 1, so factor a potential gap into your financial planning.
