Obtain a Recognized CMA Certification First
MyMichigan Health consistently hires CMAs with active credentials from AAMA or NHA. Securing your CMA(AAMA) or CCMA certification before applying signals clinical readiness and removes a common barrier that slows sponsorship decisions for this role.
Target Postings Tied to Specific Clinics
MyMichigan Health operates across multiple regional campuses and outpatient clinics. Roles at specialty or high-volume sites tend to move faster through hiring. Filter postings by location to identify where current clinical staffing gaps exist and prioritize those applications.
Clarify Your Work Authorization Early in Screening
Healthcare employers run E-Verify on all new hires, so your authorization status surfaces immediately at onboarding. Disclose your visa type and timeline during the recruiter phone screen rather than waiting, so the HR team can loop in their immigration coordinator before an offer is drafted.
Understand How TN Status Works for This Role
If you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, the TN visa category covers Medical Technologists and similar allied health roles. Confirm with MyMichigan Health's HR team that your specific CMA job duties align with an eligible TN occupational category before banking on this path.
Use Migrate Mate to Surface Active Openings
MyMichigan Health posts Clinical Medical Assistant roles across multiple clinic locations at different times. Use Migrate Mate to browse current openings filtered by sponsorship type so you apply to live postings where visa support is already confirmed, not outdated listings.
Align Your OPT Start Date with Hiring Cycles
MyMichigan Health typically fills CMA roles on a rolling basis, but large hiring pushes often align with facility expansions or academic calendar transitions. Filing your OPT application with USCIS at least 90 days before your intended start date gives enough lead time to match those windows without authorization gaps.

Find Clinical Medical Assistant at MyMichigan Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does MyMichigan Health sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Medical Assistants?
Yes, MyMichigan Health has sponsored H-1B visas for Clinical Medical Assistants. Because H-1B sponsorship requires USCIS to classify the role as a specialty occupation, the strength of your application depends on how clearly the posted job duties align with your degree field. Roles with explicit clinical degree requirements are better positioned for H-1B approval than generalist postings.
How do I apply for Clinical Medical Assistant jobs at MyMichigan Health?
Applications go through MyMichigan Health's careers portal, where postings are listed by location and department. Before applying, confirm the specific site and clinic type the role covers, as duties vary between inpatient and outpatient settings. Migrate Mate aggregates active Clinical Medical Assistant openings at MyMichigan Health filtered by sponsorship eligibility, which makes it easier to identify the right postings before submitting.
Which visa types does MyMichigan Health commonly use for Clinical Medical Assistant roles?
MyMichigan Health has worked with H-1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN visas for Clinical Medical Assistant positions. F-1 OPT is the most common entry point for recent graduates completing practical training. TN is an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals if the role maps to an eligible allied health occupation category. H-1B sponsorship requires the position to qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS guidelines.
What qualifications does MyMichigan Health expect for Clinical Medical Assistant roles?
MyMichigan Health generally requires completion of an accredited medical assisting program and a current CMA or CCMA certification. Hands-on clinical experience with phlebotomy, vital signs, and electronic health record systems is expected for most postings. Roles in specialty clinics, such as cardiology or orthopedics, may require additional experience with department-specific equipment or patient workflows beyond a general CMA background.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process take for this role?
The timeline depends on your visa type. F-1 OPT authorization from USCIS takes up to 90 days from the application date, so coordinating your start date with MyMichigan Health early is important. H-1B sponsorship follows the federal October 1 cap year start, meaning an April lottery selection translates to a fall employment start. TN status can be obtained at a port of entry, making that path faster for eligible candidates.
