Verify your credentials meet ECFMG standards early
MyMichigan Health requires foreign medical graduates to hold ECFMG certification before any visa petition moves forward. Confirm your medical degree, USMLE scores, and certification status are current well before submitting applications, since credential gaps delay H-1B filing timelines significantly.
Target openings in underserved Michigan service areas
MyMichigan Health operates across rural and semi-rural Michigan communities that frequently qualify for shortage area designations. Physician roles in these locations carry stronger institutional urgency to fill, which translates to a more motivated sponsorship process from the hiring side.
Confirm your specialty aligns with active hiring demand
MyMichigan Health's open Medical Doctor roles span multiple specialties. Cross-reference their current postings against your board certifications before applying. A mismatch between your specialty and their clinical staffing needs is the most common reason promising candidates don't advance to offer.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsorship-eligible roles
Not every Medical Doctor posting at MyMichigan Health explicitly states visa sponsorship availability. Search their current openings through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by confirmed sponsorship history so you only spend time on positions where H-1B or TN filing is actually on the table.
Clarify visa type eligibility before the offer stage
MyMichigan Health sponsors H-1B, TN, and OPT candidates, but the right pathway depends on your nationality and training status. Canadian and Mexican physicians should raise TN eligibility early in negotiations, since it avoids H-1B cap exposure and requires no USCIS petition.
Build H-1B filing timelines into your contract start date
USCIS H-1B cap-subject petitions have an October 1 earliest start date, with lottery registration opening in March. If your offer comes outside that window, confirm with MyMichigan Health's HR team whether cap-exempt hospital status applies or whether premium processing is available to compress the timeline.

Find Medical Doctor at MyMichigan Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does MyMichigan Health sponsor H-1B visas for Medical Doctors?
Yes, MyMichigan Health sponsors H-1B visas for Medical Doctor roles. As a regional health system, it has an established HR and legal process for filing H-1B petitions. Whether a specific position is cap-subject or cap-exempt depends on the facility's qualifying status, so confirm that detail directly with the recruiter during the offer stage.
Which visa types does MyMichigan Health support for Medical Doctor positions?
MyMichigan Health supports H-1B sponsorship and accepts candidates on F-1 OPT and F-1 CPT for eligible roles. Canadian and Mexican physicians may qualify for TN status, which is faster and avoids the H-1B lottery entirely. The right visa path depends on your nationality, training status, and how the specific role is classified.
What qualifications does MyMichigan Health expect from Medical Doctor applicants?
MyMichigan Health expects Medical Doctor candidates to hold a valid medical degree, ECFMG certification for foreign medical graduates, relevant U.S. residency or fellowship training, and active or pending Michigan medical licensure. Board certification in your specialty strengthens your application. Specific requirements vary by department and role level, so review each posting carefully.
How do I apply for Medical Doctor jobs at MyMichigan Health?
Browse current Medical Doctor openings at MyMichigan Health through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles with confirmed visa sponsorship eligibility. Once you identify a match, apply directly through MyMichigan Health's careers portal. Include your ECFMG certification status and visa situation in your application materials to streamline the recruiter's initial screening process.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship from MyMichigan Health?
If you need a cap-subject H-1B, USCIS lottery registration opens in March each year with an October 1 start date if selected. Build at least six to eight months of lead time into your job search to align offer and filing deadlines. If MyMichigan Health qualifies as a cap-exempt employer, petitions can be filed year-round and approved faster.
