Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Physician Jobs at MyMichigan Health Jobs
Verify Your Medical Credentials Before Applying
ECFMG certification, U.S. residency completion, and active Michigan medical licensure are non-negotiable for Physician hiring at MyMichigan Health. Get these confirmed before outreach so sponsorship conversations aren't delayed by credential gaps.
Target Shortage Specialties in Rural Michigan
MyMichigan Health operates in medically underserved areas of Michigan, which strengthens the employer's ability to justify H-1B sponsorship through DOL labor condition applications. Specialties like hospitalist medicine, psychiatry, and primary care align closely with documented regional need.
Find Open Physician Roles Through Migrate Mate
Search Migrate Mate to filter Physician openings at MyMichigan Health by visa type, so you're only reviewing positions the organization is actively sponsoring rather than cold-applying across their full job board.
Ask Directly About H-1B Cap Exemption Status
Nonprofit hospitals and health systems affiliated with higher education institutions can qualify as H-1B cap-exempt employers, meaning your petition bypasses the annual lottery. Confirm MyMichigan Health's cap-exemption status during your first recruiter conversation.
Understand the TN Pathway for Canadian and Mexican Physicians
If you hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship, the TN visa covers Physicians who are USMLE-licensed and offer medical services. TN status processes at the border or port of entry, which removes the USCIS petition wait that H-1B applicants face.
Align Your Start Date with Residency Completion and Filing Windows
USCIS H-1B filing timelines and state medical licensing boards operate on different calendars. Build your offer negotiation around a start date that gives the employer enough runway to file your petition after your residency end date is confirmed.

Find Physician at MyMichigan Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does MyMichigan Health sponsor H-1B visas for Physicians?
Yes, MyMichigan Health sponsors H-1B visas for Physician roles. As a regional health system serving parts of Michigan, the organization regularly works with foreign-national physicians through the H-1B process. If the position qualifies under a cap-exempt filing, your petition can be submitted outside the annual lottery, which removes a significant barrier for physicians completing residency or fellowship.
How do I apply for Physician jobs at MyMichigan Health?
Applications go through MyMichigan Health's careers portal, where Physician openings are listed by specialty and location. Before applying, confirm the role lists visa sponsorship as available. You can also browse Physician openings at MyMichigan Health filtered by sponsorship type on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to identify positions that match your current visa status.
Which visa types does MyMichigan Health commonly use for Physician roles?
MyMichigan Health sponsors H-1B visas for most Physician hires and also works with candidates on F-1 OPT, F-1 CPT, and TN status. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican citizens with a qualifying medical degree and USMLE licensure. For longer-term employment, H-1B remains the most common pathway for physicians in specialty and primary care roles.
What qualifications does MyMichigan Health expect from Physician candidates?
MyMichigan Health expects completion of a U.S. accredited residency or fellowship, active or pending Michigan medical licensure, and ECFMG certification for international medical graduates. Board certification or eligibility in your specialty is standard. The organization serves regional Michigan communities, so experience in outpatient or hospital settings outside major metro areas can strengthen your application.
How do I plan my timeline when accepting a Physician offer with visa sponsorship?
After accepting an offer, your employer needs time to prepare and file the H-1B petition with USCIS before your authorized start date. Factor in Michigan medical board licensing timelines, which can run several months for international graduates. Build at least three to four months of lead time between your offer acceptance and intended first day to avoid gaps in work authorization.
