Verify your clinical licensure transfers to Michigan
Michigan requires state-specific licensure for roles like LPC, LMSW, and psychiatrist. Confirm your credentials are eligible for endorsement or reciprocity before applying, since MyMichigan Health's HR will flag unlicensed candidates early in screening.
Target MyMichigan Health's outpatient and rural openings
Rural and underserved facility roles within health systems often face harder-to-fill pipelines, which increases an employer's willingness to sponsor. MyMichigan Health operates sites across mid-Michigan where mental health demand consistently outpaces local candidate supply.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open mental health roles by sponsorship type
Not every posting at a sponsoring employer is approved for visa support. Search MyMichigan Health's mental health openings on Migrate Mate to identify which specific roles are tied to H-1B, TN, or OPT sponsorship before investing time in an application.
Ask HR about LCA timelines before accepting an offer
Your employer must file a certified Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. Ask MyMichigan Health's HR team when they plan to initiate this step so you can build a realistic start-date buffer into your offer negotiation.
Align your degree field with the specific role's specialty occupation definition
USCIS scrutinizes healthcare roles carefully under the specialty occupation standard. A degree in clinical psychology, social work, or psychiatry should map directly to the posted job title. Misaligned credentials are a common H-1B denial trigger in mental health filings.
Prepare a credential evaluation before your interview
If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a NACES-member credential evaluation completed before your first interview. MyMichigan Health's credentialing and HR teams both review educational equivalency, and having the evaluation ready signals you're serious and prepared.

Does MyMichigan Health sponsor H-1B visas for Mental Healths?
Yes, MyMichigan Health sponsors H-1B visas for qualified mental health professionals, including roles in psychiatry, clinical social work, and counseling. Sponsorship is tied to specific open positions rather than offered broadly, so confirm with the hiring team during the offer stage that the role is approved for H-1B support before signing anything.
Which visa types does MyMichigan Health commonly use for Mental Health roles?
MyMichigan Health sponsors H-1B visas for most mental health positions requiring a specialty occupation degree. F-1 OPT and CPT are available for recent graduates in clinical fields, allowing you to start work before a full H-1B petition is filed. Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying mental health professions may also be eligible for TN status, which has a simpler application process.
What qualifications does MyMichigan Health expect for Mental Health positions?
Most licensed clinical roles require a master's or doctoral degree in a field such as social work, counseling, clinical psychology, or psychiatry, plus active Michigan state licensure or eligibility. Roles with supervisory or inpatient responsibilities often require post-graduate clinical hours. Foreign-educated candidates should have their credentials evaluated by a NACES-approved agency before applying.
How do I apply for Mental Health jobs at MyMichigan Health?
Browse open mental health positions on Migrate Mate, where roles at MyMichigan Health are filtered by visa sponsorship type so you can confirm eligibility upfront. Apply directly through the employer's careers portal, and in your cover letter note your visa status and intended start date. Following up with the HR recruiter after submission improves response rates for sponsored positions.
How do I plan my timeline if MyMichigan Health sponsors my H-1B?
If you're on F-1 OPT, your employer needs to file your H-1B petition by the April 1 USCIS deadline for an October 1 start. Factor in DOL Labor Condition Application processing time of seven business days minimum before the I-129 can be submitted. Start conversations with HR at least six months before your OPT expires to avoid gaps in work authorization.
