Verify your NP credentials meet Michigan requirements
Michigan requires NPs to hold both RN licensure and a separate Advanced Practice Registered Nurse authorization. Get both in hand before applying, because MyMichigan Health's credentialing committee won't move forward on a visa petition until state authorization is confirmed.
Target MyMichigan Health's rural and underserved postings
Facilities in less populated areas of mid-Michigan face consistent NP shortages, which makes sponsorship conversations easier. Positions in Alpena, Alma, or West Branch often stay open longer, giving you more leverage to negotiate visa support during the offer stage.
Initiate the sponsorship conversation before final interviews
Don't wait for a written offer to raise visa needs. Bring it up directly with the hiring manager or recruiter in the second round, framing it as a logistics question. Health systems like MyMichigan Health have HR processes that need lead time to engage immigration counsel.
Understand how TN status fits NP roles specifically
Canadian and Mexican NPs can pursue TN status under the nurse category, which doesn't require an employer petition filed with USCIS in advance. Confirm with MyMichigan Health's HR that your NP scope of practice aligns with the TN nurse classification before your border or port crossing.
Time OPT start dates around MyMichigan Health's onboarding cycles
MyMichigan Health typically onboards clinical staff in cohorts tied to credentialing timelines, which can run six to eight weeks. Request your OPT start date with enough buffer to clear hospital credentialing before your first authorized workday, or you risk an unpaid gap.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open NP roles by sponsorship type
Not every NP posting at a health system flags visa support in the job listing itself. Search Migrate Mate to surface MyMichigan Health NP openings filtered by the visa categories they've sponsored, so you apply to the right positions from the start.

Find NP at MyMichigan Health JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does MyMichigan Health sponsor H-1B visas for NPs?
Yes, MyMichigan Health sponsors H-1B visas for Nurse Practitioner roles. NP positions typically qualify as specialty occupations because they require at least a Master of Science in Nursing or equivalent graduate degree. Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before submitting the H-1B petition to USCIS, so engage the HR team early to confirm their internal process and timeline.
How do I apply for NP jobs at MyMichigan Health?
Applications go through MyMichigan Health's careers portal, where NP roles are listed by facility and specialty. Before applying, confirm your Michigan APRN authorization is active or in process, since the credentialing team will request it early. Mention your visa sponsorship needs in your cover letter or directly with the recruiter so HR can loop in immigration support from the start.
Which visa types does MyMichigan Health commonly sponsor for NP roles?
MyMichigan Health has sponsored H-1B visas for NPs and also works with candidates on F-1 OPT and F-1 CPT, which are useful if you're completing or have recently completed a U.S. nursing graduate program. Canadian and Mexican NPs may also be eligible for TN status under the nurse classification, which can be a faster path since it doesn't require advance USCIS filing.
What qualifications does MyMichigan Health expect for NP positions?
Most NP openings require a Master of Science in Nursing or a Doctor of Nursing Practice, active Michigan RN licensure, and Michigan APRN authorization. Board certification through AANP or ANCC is typically required, not just preferred. Prior clinical experience in the relevant specialty, such as family practice, internal medicine, or urgent care, strengthens your application significantly, especially for hospital-based roles.
How do I find NP jobs at MyMichigan Health that offer visa sponsorship?
Job listings don't always specify which visa types an employer supports, which makes it hard to know where to focus. Migrate Mate lets you browse MyMichigan Health NP openings filtered by sponsored visa category, so you can identify the right roles before investing time in an application. From there, confirm sponsorship directly with the recruiter early in the process.
