Verify your licensure transfers across state lines
Massachusetts requires independent licensure for clinical Mental Health roles. Confirm your LICSW, LMHC, or psychiatry credentials are eligible for reciprocity or endorsement before applying, as Boston Medical Center's offers are typically contingent on active state licensure.
Target roles within BMC's behavioral health network
Boston Medical Center's Mental Health hiring spans inpatient psychiatry, outpatient behavioral health, and community-based programs. Focusing your search on these specific service lines increases your chances of finding roles with dedicated HR sponsorship experience for this function.
Ask HR directly about H-1B cap-exempt eligibility
As a nonprofit hospital affiliated with Boston University School of Medicine, Boston Medical Center may qualify as a cap-exempt H-1B employer. Confirm this with HR before your offer stage, since cap-exempt status removes lottery risk entirely and allows year-round filing with USCIS.
Prepare your credential evaluation documents early
If your Mental Health degree was completed outside the United States, obtain a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES-approved agency before interviewing. Boston Medical Center's credentialing team will need this to confirm your qualification meets Massachusetts licensure board standards.
Understand PERM timing if you want a Green Card
Boston Medical Center sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for Mental Health roles, but the PERM labor certification process through DOL typically takes 12 to 18 months before USCIS can adjudicate the immigrant petition. Factor this into your long-term planning from the offer stage.
Use Migrate Mate to filter open Mental Health roles
Searching for Mental Health positions at Boston Medical Center that explicitly support visa sponsorship saves significant time. Migrate Mate lets you filter specifically for these roles, so you're only applying where sponsorship is already confirmed rather than asking at the interview stage.

Does Boston Medical Center sponsor H-1B visas for Mental Healths?
Yes, Boston Medical Center sponsors H-1B visas for qualified Mental Health professionals. Because BMC is a nonprofit hospital system affiliated with Boston University School of Medicine, it may qualify as a cap-exempt H-1B employer, which means petitions can be filed at any time of year without entering the annual lottery. Confirm cap-exempt status directly with their HR team during the offer process.
How do I apply for Mental Health jobs at Boston Medical Center?
You can browse open Mental Health positions at Boston Medical Center through Migrate Mate, which filters for roles where visa sponsorship is confirmed. Once you identify a relevant position, applications are submitted through BMC's careers portal. Tailor your application to highlight clinical specialization, Massachusetts licensure status, and any experience in safety-net or community health settings, which aligns closely with BMC's patient population.
Which visa types does Boston Medical Center commonly use for Mental Health roles?
Boston Medical Center most commonly uses the H-1B visa for Mental Health professionals in specialty occupation roles such as licensed clinical social workers, mental health counselors, and psychiatrists. For longer-term immigration, BMC also supports employment-based Green Card sponsorship through the EB-2 and EB-3 preference categories, typically initiated after the employee has established tenure in their role.
What qualifications does Boston Medical Center expect for Mental Health positions?
Boston Medical Center generally requires a master's or doctoral degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or psychiatry for clinical Mental Health roles, along with active Massachusetts licensure such as LICSW, LMHC, or MD board certification. Experience in community health, trauma-informed care, or underserved populations is particularly valued given BMC's mission as a safety-net provider. Foreign-trained applicants will need a credential evaluation confirming degree equivalency.
How do I plan for visa filing timelines when accepting an offer from Boston Medical Center?
If BMC is cap-exempt, your H-1B petition can be filed with USCIS at any point after your offer is finalized, with premium processing available to reduce adjudication to around 15 business days. For Green Card sponsorship, the PERM labor certification phase alone typically takes 12 to 18 months, so it's worth discussing the employer's sponsorship timeline with HR before your start date to set accurate expectations.
