Verify Your ECFMG Certification Before Applying
Emory Healthcare requires internationally trained physicians to hold valid ECFMG certification before credentialing can proceed. Confirm your certificate is current and your medical school is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools before submitting any application.
Target Departments with Ongoing Physician Shortages
Emory consistently recruits in high-demand specialties like hospital medicine, psychiatry, and primary care. Focusing your search on these areas improves your chances of reaching a hiring manager who is actively working with the HR team on international sponsorship approvals.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Sponsored Medical Doctor Openings
Searching broadly across job boards wastes time on roles where sponsorship is unlikely. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Medical Doctor positions at Emory Healthcare where visa sponsorship is confirmed, so your applications are targeted from the start.
Align Your Application Timeline with USCIS Cap Deadlines
H-1B cap-subject filings open in March for an October 1 start date. If Emory extends you an offer in late spring, your start date will likely be deferred to the next fiscal year. Factor this into residency end dates and any OPT or grace period you're relying on.
Request a Written Sponsorship Commitment Before Credentialing
Physician credentialing at a large health system can take 90 to 120 days. Secure written confirmation from Emory's HR or legal team that they will file your visa petition before that process begins, so immigration and credentialing timelines can run concurrently.

Find Medical Doctor at Emory Healthcare JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Emory Healthcare sponsor H-1B visas for Medical Doctors?
Yes, Emory Healthcare sponsors H-1B visas for Medical Doctors. As a large academic health system operating across multiple hospital and clinic sites, Emory regularly files H-1B petitions for physicians in both cap-subject and cap-exempt categories. Cap-exempt eligibility may apply if your role is based at a qualifying nonprofit research or teaching facility within the Emory system.
How do I apply for Medical Doctor jobs at Emory Healthcare?
Applications go through Emory Healthcare's careers portal, where physician roles are listed by specialty and location. You can also find sponsored Medical Doctor openings at Emory on Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for positions where visa sponsorship is available. Tailor your application to the clinical department and include your ECFMG certification status if you trained internationally.
Which visa types does Emory Healthcare commonly use for Medical Doctor roles?
Emory Healthcare sponsors several visa categories for Medical Doctors, including H-1B, J-1, TN (for Canadian and Mexican physicians), and F-1 OPT for those completing medical fellowships. For permanent residency, Emory supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways, often initiated after a physician has been with the organization for some time. The appropriate category depends on your nationality, training background, and role structure.
What qualifications does Emory Healthcare expect for Medical Doctor positions?
Emory requires full licensure in Georgia or eligibility to obtain it, board certification or active board eligibility in your specialty, and ECFMG certification for internationally trained graduates. For most clinical roles, completion of a U.S.-accredited residency is expected. Fellowship training is required for subspecialty positions. Academic roles may also expect a research or teaching portfolio depending on the department.
How long does the visa sponsorship process typically take for Medical Doctors at Emory Healthcare?
The H-1B process generally takes three to six months from offer to approval under standard USCIS processing, or two to four weeks with premium processing. At Emory, physician credentialing adds another 90 to 120 days, so total onboarding timelines commonly run four to six months from offer acceptance. Starting discussions early and aligning your visa filing with USCIS cap deadlines reduces the risk of gaps in employment authorization.
