Verify your credentials meet Massachusetts requirements
Before applying, confirm your medical degree is evaluated for U.S. equivalency and that you hold or are eligible for a Massachusetts medical license. Boston Medical Center requires ECFMG certification for international medical graduates, and incomplete credentialing will stall any offer.
Target BMC's safety-net specialties first
Boston Medical Center prioritizes underserved community medicine, so physicians with backgrounds in internal medicine, psychiatry, family medicine, or addiction medicine are well-matched to their mission. Framing your application around that patient population strengthens your candidacy from the start.
Clarify H-1B cap-exempt status during recruitment
As a nonprofit hospital affiliated with Boston University School of Medicine, Boston Medical Center qualifies as a cap-exempt H-1B employer. This means your petition can be filed at any time without waiting for the annual lottery, which removes a major timing constraint from your job search.
Align your offer timeline with LCA filing requirements
Your employer must file a Labor Condition Application with the DOL before USCIS can process your H-1B petition. Build at least four to six weeks into your expected start date to account for LCA certification, especially if you're transitioning from residency or fellowship status.
Ask HR explicitly about EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship intent
Permanent residency sponsorship involves PERM labor certification through the DOL, which some hospitals initiate early and others defer. Confirm during the offer stage whether Boston Medical Center will support a Green Card petition and on what timeline, so you're not caught off guard.
Use Migrate Mate to find open Medical Doctor roles at BMC
Physician roles at large academic medical centers move quickly and aren't always listed prominently on general job boards. Search Migrate Mate to filter Boston Medical Center openings by visa sponsorship type and apply directly to roles where sponsorship is already confirmed.

Find Medical Doctor at Boston Medical Center JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Boston Medical Center sponsor H-1B visas for Medical Doctors?
Yes. Boston Medical Center sponsors H-1B visas for Medical Doctors and, as a nonprofit hospital with a medical school affiliation, it qualifies as a cap-exempt employer under USCIS rules. That means petitions can be filed year-round without entering the annual lottery, which is a significant advantage for internationally trained physicians targeting a clinical start date.
How do I apply for Medical Doctor jobs at Boston Medical Center?
You can browse open Medical Doctor positions at Boston Medical Center through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by employer and visa sponsorship type so you can confirm sponsorship before applying. Applications typically require a current CV, medical school credentials, ECFMG certification for international graduates, and evidence of licensure eligibility or an active Massachusetts medical license.
Which visa types does Boston Medical Center use to sponsor Medical Doctors?
Boston Medical Center most commonly sponsors Medical Doctors on H-1B visas for initial employment. For physicians pursuing long-term residency, the hospital may also support EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visa petitions, which involve PERM labor certification through the DOL. J-1 waiver positions are also available for physicians completing residency or fellowship who commit to underserved community service.
What qualifications does Boston Medical Center expect for Medical Doctor roles?
Boston Medical Center expects candidates to hold an M.D. or D.O. degree, or a foreign equivalent evaluated for U.S. comparability. International medical graduates must be ECFMG-certified. Board certification or eligibility in your specialty is standard, and clinical experience in high-need populations aligns well with the hospital's safety-net mission serving Boston's diverse and underinsured communities.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Medical Doctor role at Boston Medical Center?
For an H-1B petition, allow four to six weeks for DOL Labor Condition Application certification before USCIS can process the petition. Standard USCIS adjudication adds several months, though premium processing is available for faster review. If permanent residency sponsorship is part of your plan, the PERM process alone typically takes one to two years before an immigrant visa petition can be filed.
