Tips for Finding Clinical Medical Assistant Jobs at Fairview Health Services
Certify your credentials before applying
Fairview operates within Minnesota's regulated healthcare environment, so having your CMA certification from AAMA or RMA from AMT verified before you apply signals you meet clinical floor requirements from day one, not after onboarding.
Target ambulatory and specialty clinic postings
Fairview's Clinical Medical Assistant openings are concentrated in outpatient and specialty care settings. Filtering your search to these clinic types improves your match rate, since staffing needs there are more predictable and sponsorship conversations tend to move faster.
Confirm OPT or CPT authorization covers your start date
F-1 students on OPT or CPT must ensure their work authorization period covers the full onboarding timeline. Fairview's hiring process can take several weeks, so confirm your authorized end date leaves sufficient runway before you accept an offer.
Browse verified sponsorship roles using Migrate Mate
Identifying which Fairview postings are realistically open to visa sponsorship takes legwork. Use Migrate Mate to filter Clinical Medical Assistant openings at Fairview by visa type, so you spend your time on roles already flagged for international candidates.
Ask HR about PERM labor certification timelines early
If you're targeting an EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathway through Fairview, PERM labor certification typically takes 12 to 18 months before an immigrant petition can be filed. Raising this in your offer negotiation sets realistic expectations for both sides.
Prepare documentation for E-Verify on day one
Fairview participates in E-Verify, which means your Form I-9 supporting documents must be ready before your first day. Have your work authorization documentation organized in advance so employment verification doesn't delay your start date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Fairview Health Services sponsor H-1B visas for Clinical Medical Assistants?
Fairview Health Services has a documented history of sponsoring H-1B visas, and Clinical Medical Assistant roles are among the positions where sponsorship has occurred. That said, not every open role includes sponsorship, and availability depends on the specific clinic, department budget, and hiring manager. Candidates should confirm sponsorship intent directly with the recruiter during the initial screening conversation.
How do I apply for Clinical Medical Assistant jobs at Fairview Health Services?
Applications go through Fairview's careers portal, where you can filter by role type and location. You can also use Migrate Mate to browse current Clinical Medical Assistant openings at Fairview that are flagged for visa sponsorship, which helps you prioritize applications based on your specific work authorization status before reaching out to a recruiter.
Which visa types does Fairview Health Services commonly use for Clinical Medical Assistant roles?
Fairview has sponsored H-1B visas and supported F-1 OPT and CPT candidates for Clinical Medical Assistant positions. For longer-term pathways, the company has also used EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories, and TN visas are an option for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying clinical occupations. The visa type typically depends on your current status and the role's classification.
What qualifications does Fairview Health Services expect for Clinical Medical Assistant roles?
Most Fairview Clinical Medical Assistant postings require a completed medical assisting program from an accredited institution and a recognized certification, such as the CMA from the AAMA or the RMA from AMT. Experience with electronic health records, phlebotomy, and direct patient care in a clinical or ambulatory setting strengthens your application considerably. Some specialty clinic roles also require familiarity with specific patient populations or procedures.
How long does the sponsorship and hiring process typically take at Fairview Health Services?
From application to start date, Fairview's hiring process for Clinical Medical Assistant roles generally runs four to eight weeks. If H-1B sponsorship is involved, the petition must align with USCIS filing windows, which can add several months depending on where you are in your current status. For F-1 OPT candidates, the timeline is faster, but your authorized period must cover the full onboarding duration.
